FBV WP House / Gabriel Garbin Arquitetura

The concept of FBV WP house is based on a deep analysis of each one of the landscape elements as well as the owners’ lifestyle. The volumes’ composition has been elaborated in such a way that the residents’ gaze would be drawn into the plot’s interior, with the preserved wooded area – the project’s great actor – as background. Factoring in elements like the sun, the woods, the pool, and the time that will be spent among friends, we devised an L-shaped building that faces the sunset. The center of the plot is the point people look towards and where they spend time together. The perception of inside and outside space changes every so often.

Nestled between the mountains of Batroun and its sea, Carl Gerges Architects’ latest hospitality project is a haven of sandy tones, rich textures, and lush greenery, inspired by Mediterranean landscapes and tales. “Capo” is a boutique hotel and resort, architecturally reminiscent of a Roman amphitheater, using classical symmetry and intricate detailing to deliver a sense of balance across the property, whilst paying homage to the land’s history. Laid out in five descending levels, ultimately leading up to the shore of Batroun’s sparkling sea, the main protagonist is omnipresent, glorious at every turn.

Chwihoga House / 100A associates

The Temple of Tiger for Recovery, Chwihoga - I have read an article, ‘There is only one place among the infinite points on the earth. Therefore, places have the power to make architecture special’. Most of my own work styles are started with the previously cited article, ‘Places have the power to make architecture special.’ My heart for the land (a specific place) before the construction of Chwihoga was a distant silence, it was the tranquility of silence and no-causality of being stored something that will unexpectedly overthrow my mind and body. My deep impression of the site might be a human response to the ‘vitality of place’ carved deep into the ground, regardless of how much it’s washed.

Locally procured tall wild grasses are used to tie the roof. This roof building is a traditional technique that helps in maintaining comfortable temperatures throughout the year. Walls are made on rammed earth using mud from the site mixed with natural binders like lime & fenugreek seeds. Birch Tree House / H&E Architects

Situated in the heart of Annandale’s heritage precinct, the existing house held a single-story frontage on a narrow lot. The southeast, street-facing, aspect was in reasonable condition - reflective of the original late-Victorian Italianate style. The rear, northwest-facing elements had been significantly altered by an unremarkable modern two-story addition that was in poor repair. The ambitious brief called for a contemporary but respectful reinvigoration of the original areas and a complete reinvention of the rear.
