Melbourne: The Latest Architecture and News

There are a number of public events available throughout the duration of the 5 days. A symposium will be held at BMW Edge on Tuesday 26 July. The opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday 27 July at the Docklands. The announcement of the winners will take place at the Docklands on Saturday 30 July. Edwards Moore recently completed a temporary concept store for Arnsdorf womens label, the system, composed entire of tights, set to create a sculptural setting for the boutique clothing store. For more images of the installation and a brief description from Edwards Moore, follow after the jump.

Interdisciplinary design firm HASSELL has shared with us their competition submittal for the Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC), a new landmark building at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. Additional images and the architect’s description after the break.

Nestled within the undulated roofline of one of Fitzroy’s famed MacRobertson warehouses, sits a roof terrace with a difference – complete with canopy and turf. This, the vertical and architectural pinnacle of the Butler House, fills the void that effects so many inner-city dwellings – a lack of outdoor space. Further to this, the warehouse apartment had a number of innate thermal and acoustic shortcomings – making it less-than-ideal for occupancy by a family with 2 rambunctious young boys. Balancing intimacy with privacy came to be a significant consideration for this young family and is achieved via shrewd adaptability of spaces.
