2019 RIBA Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship Now Open

The 2019 Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship opens today and welcomes applications from architecture students enrolled in schools of architecture around the world. A £7,000 grant will be awarded to one winner by a panel of judges which will include Lord Foster and RIBA President Ben Derbyshire.

First established in 2006, the scholarship, supported by the Norman Foster Foundation and Foster + Partners, is now in its twelfth year and is intended to fund international research on a topic related to the survival of our towns and cities, in a location of the student’s choice.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: U.S. Pavilion at 17th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale

The U.S. Department of State and the National Endowment for the Arts Design Program announce that the call for applications has been posted for the U.S. presentation at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition held in Venice, Italy, from May 23 to November 29, 2020. The Venice Architecture Biennale exhibition is the premier showcase for revolutionary ideas in contemporary architecture and design through national venues.

This call for applications is specifically for the exhibition at the U.S. Pavilion. The award amount is $325,000 (including $125,000 for pavilion management), with potential additional funding pending availability from the National Endowment for the Arts.

INDEX: Award is the biggest design award in the world, worth €500,000, and is commonly referred to as the ‘Nobel Prize of design’.

IE Spaces for Innovation Prize

IE School of Architecture and Design announces its fifth IE SPACES FOR INNOVATION PRIZE for young architects and designers worldwide. This award recognizes talented young designers by offering scholarships to our world-class Master’s Degree, and facilitating full-time, paid internships in some of the world’s top design firms.

The James Harrison Steedman Fellowship in Architecture is open to anyone, anywhere in the world, who has received an accredited degree in architecture within the last eight years. The $50,000 fellowship is granted biannually to support 6-12 months of international travel for architectural research. This year's theme is Infrastructures, developed by jury chair Andrea Leers, Principal and Co-Founder, Leers Weinzapfel Associates. The fellowship is jointly administered by the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis and AIA St.

World Prize for Contemporary Plant Fiber-Based Architecture

The FIBRA Award rewards teams that incorporate plant-based materials in their buildings while proposing innovative solutions, giving added value to local resources and know-how, and taking into account aesthetic values. The ambition of its initiators is to promote the current dynamics that encourage the use of locally-sourced bio-based materials.

The prize focuses on the use of bamboo, reed, hemp, flax, straw, rattan, palm, industrial by-products (bagasse, peanut shell, rice husk, coconut fiber, etc.), collected waste (paper, cardboard, textiles, pallet wood, etc.), seaweed, etc. Buildings with wooden structures, which are already the subject of many awards, are not considered for the FIBRA
