Pink Zoning Detroit

The City of Detroit, in partnership with the Knight Foundation, seeks ambitious, multidisciplinary planning and design teams to reimagine Detroit’s commercial corridors and explore reforms to Detroit’s land use regulations.

Inspired by the principles of Lean Urbanism, the project involves modest research, design, and analysis services, spread over a six month period.

Successful teams will receive $19,000 to cover costs and travel.

Alvar Aalto Design Seminar

The summer’s most anticipated design and architecture event – the 8th International Alvar Aalto Design Seminar, 27–28.8.2016 – brings together design professionals, students and design fans from around the world.

This year’s theme, MAXIMAL I MINIMAL, is an appeal on behalf of high-quality design. The event will be chaired by designer and interior architect Simo Heikkilä, who challenges participants and the twelve speakers to consider the choices made in design work and the sustainability of those choices.

Martha Thorne Urges UK to Preserve International Recognition of Qualifications in Wake of Brexit

Martha Thorne, the Executive Director of the Pritzker Prize and dean of the IE School of Architecture and Design in Madrid, has warned of the dangers that the United Kingdom's decision to withdraw from the EU will pose to the architecture profession both in the UK and the EU. As reported by BDOnline, Thorne highlighted the mutual recognition of professional qualifications that has been established by the EU, enabling architects qualified in any EU country to practice in another EU country without being required to requalify.

Getting Things Done: Evolution of the Built Environment in Vorarlberg

Galeri Petronas, in partnership with the Austrian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, recently launched a travelling exhibition titled “Getting Things Done : Evolution of the Built Environment in Vorarlberg”.

The exhibition features 70 panels that showcase the evolution and current state of Vorarlberg’s distinctive built environment and GALERI PETRONAS is the first Asian stop and the only venue in Malaysia to host this global-touring exhibition.

Resilient Landscapes: Designing for Water, Risk, and Remediation

Our urban environment is in constant flux brought on by changes in economies and climate change. Issues of adaptation and resiliency are increasingly more relevant to all design disciplines. Queen Hur Memorial Park Design Competition (India)

Ÿ"Queen Hur Memorial Park Construction Project" is promoted in joint as a result of the 2015 Korea-India Summit on reinforcing cultural and personal exchanges between the two countries. The project is to reorganize the existing Queen Hur Memorial Park located in Ayodhya, India, and to extend the park in the riverside area next to the memorial park to construct the memorial park newly for connecting to the adjacent urban fabric, and commercial and cultural facilities.

The City Above the City - Architects' Competition

The City Above the City international wood design competition invites architects and students from all over the world to solve the challenges of urbanisation in both sustainable and humane ways.

Metsä Wood invites participants to submit their work for the City Above the City design competition by September 30th 2016. The prizes of the competition include one grand prize of 10,000 €, two second prizes of 5,000 € and five third prizes of 2,000 €. The top 10 entries will be published.

Natural Building Techniques Inspired From Traditional Constructions

The workshop is organized by SADAS-PEA (Greek Architects Association) in order to promote the principle of environmentally friendly architecture. It is addressed to young architects and students of architecture. It will take place at the Stamos Stournas guesthouse near the city of Volos, Greece between September 17th and September 25th 2016.

Long Beach Mid-Century Modern Home Tour

This fall, the University Art Museum will present the Long Beach Mid-Century Modern Home Tour, on October 15, 2016, to benefit the 2017 exhibition, Frank Bros.: The Store That Modernized Modern. This tour (10:30am – 5pm) will highlight the modern architecture of Hugh Davies, Edward Killingsworth, Cliff May, George Montierth, Richard Neutra, and Raphael Soriano with nine stops throughout Long Beach!
