Calling all thousand year thinkers!

The Living Places - Simon Architecture Prize is an initiative of the firm Simon curated by the Fundació Mies van der Rohe since the prize’s inception in 2016, in commemoration of Simon's centenary. Since then, architecture studios from more than 23 countries have participated in the competition, reaffirming its international importance. In the previous edition, the prize saw 220 nominated projects.

SUPSI and MC2.0 present the contest “Solar Design for Public Co-working Spaces”. This contest highlights the crucial interplay between solar energy and buildings in creating multifunctional solar architectures to redefine the use of solar energy as a building and design material.
For the contest “Solar Design for Public Coworking Spaces”, participants are asked to design a temporary co-working space in which a flexible and lightweight photovoltaic film is integrated into one or more technological systems such as shading systems, facades, roofs, street furnishing elements, etc. This space, accommodating approximately 10 workers, should encompass essential co-working amenities such as desks, chairs, electrical outlets, and a small outdoor workspace. The jury will be looking for designs that study how the photovoltaic elements are integrated into the built environment and used as a construction materials and how the technology can influence and shape architectural decisions. Participants may select any urban environment for their “Solar Design for Public Co-working Spaces” and propose a design solution for the fully functional building.
Winning proposal, 3 special awards. The MC2.0 consortium will award a maximum of 3’000 € in in-kind services to competition winners.

The Romanian Order of Architects (OAR), with the support of OAR Bucharest Territorial Branch, together with the Contracting Authority – the 2nd District of the Municipality of Bucharest, are glad to announce the official launch of the "Colentina Lakes, 2nd District, Bucharest” International Design Competition.
Considering the extent and diversity of the Implementation area and taking into account the different design challenges, the Contracting Authority, together with OAR, decided to resort to the award of public procurement contracts by lots and decided to divide the implementation area of the competition into three lots as follows:

Located right at the border with Russia, Kharkiv stands as Ukraine’s second-largest city and has been significantly impacted by the ongoing conflict. This historically relevant and industrial city now faces the pressing challenge of rebuilding its damaged urban fabric, with a particular focus on residential buildings and public spaces, to not only repair but to also to improve the living conditions of its residents. This competition is part of the larger Kharkiv concept Masterplan project: a local and international initiative of the Kharkiv City Council, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) within the framework of the UN4UkrainianCities initiative, the Norman Foster Foundation, Arup, and the Kharkiv Architects Group, among others.

This September, non-profit organization Building Trust will host a Live Build Workshop in Laos, in partnership with the local Free the Bears Fund rescue centre. Participants are invited to work with the Laotian local community and Free the Bears staff to construct a design a sustainable merchandise store within the bear rescue centre. The store will allow Free the Bears to sell merchandise that will in turn fund their ongoing bear conservation projects in Laos and beyond.

Considering the historical background of this art in Iran, the first Interior Design Award was established in 2009 as an independent event by Honar-e Memari Institute.

Matrix: How We Live Now is a timely new exhibition exploring the work of the Matrix Feminist Design Co-operative, a radical feminist architectural practice active in London from 1980 to 1996. The exhibition features items drawn from the collective’s open archive, alongside projects from researchers at the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning on gender, bodies and ecologies. Join us for a series of floor talks and panel discussions during the exhibition on important topics including architecture and community, bodies and cities, and writing diverse histories of architecture.

Parametric Architecture introduces a series of upcoming workshops in partnership with ArchDaily. In this workshop, participants will learn advanced methods to maximize control, efficiency, and quality. In addition, they will be taught design principles and how to engage creatively in the age of AI. The course will also cover post-processing techniques, productivity strategies, essential resources, and an overview of other applications to prepare for the oncoming AI boom.

The AI Creative Challenge aims to encourage participants to use these AI-powered tools to generate visually impressive designs. Through human prompting, crafting, and imagination, participants will steer AI algorithms to create original designs that push the boundaries of architecture.

Incorporating AI tools like Midjourney and Dalle2 in the design process allows for rapid ideation, exploration, and visualization of concepts while deepening our understanding of AI's creative potential. These tools provide a unique opportunity to examine the interaction between human and artificial intelligence and assess the benefits of collaboration in the creative process.
