RURAPOLIS Summerschool 2022 - Raw earth construction workshop, territory & ruralities

The Summerschool RURAPOLIS is structured around a series of lectures at the Palacio Condestable in Pamplona, with well-known personalities at European and regional level: Anna Chavepayre from the Collectif Encore (winner of the Kasper Salin Prize 2018), Orekari Estudio and Studio Acte. Also, the summerschool RURAPOLIS will be introduced online by the ENSA Versailles, the coordinating institution of the project, in a round table event in presence of the architect and author of Walkscapes Francesco Careri, the architect and researcher Luciano Aletta, Atelier Aïno and Paul-Emmanuel Loiret, professor at the ENSA Versailles and raw earth architect.

Besides, a prospective exploration of the territory with the analysis of cartographic material will highlight the RURAPOLIS project as a necessary tool for regional development in the context of the climatic and societal challenges we are now facing, using a big nucleus of abandoned rural structures in the region.

Finally, the RURAPOLIS project will be put into practice: we will experiment the rammed earth technique during a one-day modelling exhibitive workshop in Pamplona, and then build a 1:1 scale modell in the abandonned village of Egulbati, near Pamplona. The small architecture/amphitheatre/totem made of raw earth and mixed techniques will allow the development of a sustainable constructive intelligence and the first *earthy* milestone of the RURAPOLIS. The training on the rammed earth technique will be carried out with the raw earth expert Jonathan Martens (Habitaterre). At the end of the stay, the collectively designed architectural object will host a cultural and festive event - the performance Terra by the choreographer and dancer Galina Rodríguez, followed by a closing dinner and bivouac in the abandoned village, making the reactivation of the neglected village structures in this territory possible and attractive.
