The main objective of the Emerging Latin American Practices Vol III lecture series is to foster conversations and debates with various emerging architecture collectives across Latin America. The series serves as a starting point for analyzing complex architectural projects that reflect design processes, project strategies, social impact, and theoretical reflections related to architectural practice and its intersections with academia, aiming to articulate an overview of the discipline's work in the region.

The Municipal Secretariat of Culture, through the Department of Historical Heritage (DPH), is hosting the 15th Heritage Appreciation Week. On August 12, 13, and 14, three online sessions will explore the theme "Our City, Our Memories." The free broadcast will be available on the DPH YouTube and Facebook channels.

The Museu do Pontal is hosting an online debate series titled "The New Museu do Pontal – Partnerships and Inspirations," beginning August 5, 2021, at 5:00 PM. This event kicks off the programming leading up to the inauguration of the museum's new headquarters in Barra da Tijuca, the date of which will be announced during the session. The seminar will be held biweekly. The first meeting will feature Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes, Hugo Barreto of the Instituto Cultural Vale, Eduardo Saron of Itaú Cultural, Luciane Gorgulho of BNDES, and collector Edmar Costa Pinto, all supporters of the Museu do Pontal. Museum directors Lucas Van de Beuque and Angela Mascelani will also be in attendance.

For this issue of Dearq, "Tectonic Matter," we are seeking contributions that address tectonics not as a style or a fetishization of detail, but as a rigorous field in which the material realities of architecture—such as provenance, craft, labor, structural systems, fabrication protocols, and performance criteria—become inseparable from how space is perceived, inhabited, and understood. Who can participate: We welcome contributions from architects, historians, theorists, engineers, educators, and researchers addressing this theme. Interdisciplinary approaches and perspectives from specific contexts are encouraged, provided they remain anchored in tectonics as a conceptual and practical field of architectural invention. The 18th National Meeting on Landscape Architecture Education in Brazilian Schools of Architecture and Urbanism (Enepea) will be held from August 11 to 14, 2026, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. As the most traditional and established scientific event in the field of landscape architecture, it will bring together researchers, professors, professionals, and undergraduate and graduate students from across the country for four days of lectures, workshops, short courses, and technical visits.
The Modern Architecture in São Paulo course presents a special edition in August focused on Lina Bo Bardi. The sessions will provide historical and critical theoretical approaches to the architect's work, in addition to guided tours of two projects: MASP and SESC Pompéia. During these visits, the architecture will be experienced and discussed in detail on-site.
How can we cultivate a holistic, complex, and systemic perspective on what we call home? How can we produce new ways of valuing and recognizing non-hegemonic cultures? What are the pathologies of the systems we are taught to believe in, and how can we create new forms of perception and action that recognize the interconnectedness of life’s production and organizational systems?
The Arquitetas Negras project emerged from the need to provide visibility to the work of Black Brazilian architects. By mapping the production of these professionals, the project is building a platform for both research and the hiring of architectural services across Brazil.
The course is structured around visits to contemporary architectural works in São Paulo, always in the company of the architect who developed the project. A public inaugural class will be held to present the course and explain the logistics of the visits. The selection of sites to be visited is based on the following criteria: location, scale, author, and use. Each visit includes discussions on topics such as the practical realities of architectural practice, education, new technologies, work processes, and the project's relationship with the city.
The Japanese textile universe, with its richness and variety of fabrics and prints, is the latest facet of Japanese culture to be presented at Japan House São Paulo through the exhibition "NUNO – Contemporary Textile Poetics," on view from August 20 to October 27, 2019. The exhibition highlights pieces created by Japanese designer Reiko Sudo, from the brand NUNO (a word meaning "fabric" in Japanese), which develops aesthetic lines, materials, and techniques, often reinterpreting Japan's textile tradition for the contemporary world.
Escola da Cidade – School of Architecture and Urbanism is hosting the third edition of the Portas Abertas program, featuring a series of activities for prospective students interested in pursuing a degree in Architecture and Urbanism. The program, which has been running since 2017, aims to provide students with the opportunity to experience the school firsthand, explore its facilities, and interact with faculty and current students.
