Exploraciones Urbanas is a workshop that invites reflection on how to transform the contemporary city through dialogues between cities. The proposal aims to bring together faculty and students from various Argentine universities to share knowledge regarding common issues and challenges, while creating a space for reflection on approaches to urban intervention.

This course—offered in three monthly modules (April, May, and June) of four classes each—will discuss central issues in the history of modern art through iconic works by Paul Cézanne, Louise Bourgeois, Le Corbusier, Marguerite Duras, Federico Fellini, Toyo Ito, Rem Koolhaas, Kazimir Malevich, Hannes Meyer, Aleksander Rodchenko, Arnold Schoenberg, and Giuseppe Terragni. The modules can be taken individually or sequentially. By adopting a critical and non-linear approach to the history of art and architecture, the classes will explore paradigmatic points of the field in the 20th century. The diverse group of young speakers selected—including art historians, curators, architects, and psychoanalysts—provides, in itself, an overview of contemporary art criticism and research in São Paulo.

This Saturday, May 4th, the team behind the XXI Architecture and Urbanism Biennial of Chile will hold its second field activity, seeking to gather opinions on their theme of "the common and the ordinary," as well as definitions regarding the Franklin neighborhood and its significant landmarks, in preparation for this major event in October 2019.

Contemporary culture has applied the notion of curation across many segments—from works in an art exhibition, where the term is frequently used, to literary fairs, fashion festivals, cinema, or gastronomy—to designate the selection of products or objects based on specific criteria or concepts. Recent artistic production, in turn, by expressing contemporary themes and forms through distinct—and often innovative or even provocative—techniques and modes of presentation, makes the work of curation a powerful form of mediation and dialogue with diverse audiences.

Starting May 15 at 7:30 PM, the exhibition "Premios y Obras" (Awards and Works) will be on display at the Sociedad Central de Arquitectos (Montevideo 938, CABA). The exhibition compiles winning projects from public competitions held over the last 10 years. Organized by the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism (UNLP), the exhibition can be visited in the Salón de las Columnas on the first floor of the SCA. Admission is free.

On May 8, 9, and 10, the second "Urban Rivers: Confluences in the Study, Design, and Management of Fluvial Territories" Research Conference will be held in Buenos Aires. Aimed at faculty, researchers, officials, professionals, and students, this conference seeks to promote interdisciplinary exchange regarding the study, design, and management of fluvial territories in both urban and peri-urban areas.

300 students from across Latin America will gather at the Universidad del Bío-Bío and the Universidad de Concepción for the fourth CICAU 2019: Congress of Scientific Initiation in Architecture and Urbanism.

The fourth edition of the International Forum of Urban Interventions (FIIU) will take place this year in Lima from August 5 to 11. The event has launched an open call for collectives, students, activists, organized citizens, and private or public institutions to participate by sharing their initiatives and projects on one of the region's most important stages for urban interventions and public space.

The forms of industrial construction (across all sectors, from dams, warehouses, and silos to workshops and mills), in their pursuit of economic and spatial efficiency, served as compelling formal references for architects at the dawn of the modern movement, as noted by Banham; they often inspired the design of ordinary urban buildings.

LECTURE by Gabriela Carrillo, titled "Architecture: Processes"
Mexican architect, graduated with honors from the UNAM Faculty of Architecture. She develops public and private architectural projects of varying scales, as well as historical restorations, ephemeral interventions, and exhibition designs. Her work has been published and featured in national and international magazines, books, and exhibitions. She has collaborated with Mauricio Rocha since 2001, and in 2011, they partnered to form Taller |Mauricio Rocha + Gabriela Carrillo|. In 2016, they designed the exhibition layout for "The Great Animal Orchestra" at the Fondation Cartier in Paris and the pavilion for Hermès at the Milan Furniture Fair. She has delivered lectures, led workshops, and taught postgraduate courses at various universities in Mexico, the United States, and several South American countries. She has received awards at the Mexican, Ibero-American, and Pan-American Architecture Biennials. In 2012, the UNAM Faculty of Architecture awarded them the Federico Mariscal Chair, the university's highest recognition for professional practice. She was a recipient of the 2014 Emerging Voices Award from The Architectural League of New York and was named "Architect of the Year 2017" by the international Architectural Review and Architects' Journal award.

The School of Architecture at Universidad Finis Terrae hosts monthly "Atraviesos Urbanos" (Urban Crossings), thematic tours of Santiago led by architects. This edition, titled "Paseo Bulnes: Tracing Our Civic History," will be led by architect Andrés Echeverría.

This conference emerges as a point of interest for updating the state of the art in design and technology for sustainability, spanning academic training, professional practice, and research, development, and innovation (R&D&i).

Michele De Lucchi, architect and designer and an influential figure in movements such as Cavart, Alchimia, and Memphis, will visit Diseño UC on May 24 as part of a series of activities organized by the School in collaboration with the PhD in Architecture and Urban Studies and the Faculty of Architecture, Design, and Urban Studies at UC.
