The Nate, in collaboration with Steelcase, RIBA Hong Kong Chapter & District15 Platforms is excited to announce a competition for all designers in Hong Kong, titled . The winner will receive a month stay at The Nate serviced studios, and:

Winter Stations is a single-stage international design competition held annually in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Participants are tasked with designing temporary winter art installations which incorporate existing lifeguard towers spaced strategically across the city’s Kew and Woodbine beaches. The structures (not in use in the wintertime) must not be ignored in the design and can be used as either an armature for the installations, a central feature, or other- wise linked to the installation.

This autumn, Open House Worldwide (OHWW) will stage its first collaborative event: a free 48-hour non-stop streamed festival of events, discussions, tours and more.

With contributions from architects, designers, urbanists and citizens in over 40 Open House cities from across the network, Open House Worldwide will tackle the most important issues facing our built environments across the world, from the climate crisis to housing; transport to post-pandemic design.

Design | Thesis | Motivation – is a workshop by Thinking Hand NGO, with an intention to motivate young students from various disciplines and background of Architecture, Landscape and Urban Design. On September 29th 2020 TIF-­‐HELEXPO SA launched an international open call for the pre-qualification to participate in the “International Architectural Design Competition for the Thessaloniki ConfEx Park”. This course aims to introduce prospective architecture students to fundamental concepts in the development of architectural projects, specifically those related to materialization. The goal is to facilitate the mastery of a technical language that will be used throughout their academic and professional careers.

We all see because it is a natural human gift. However, if we learn to LOOK through the eye of the camera, we can Frame. If we can distinguish between near and far, sharp and blurry, foreground and background, we can Focus. By prioritizing, categorizing, organizing, and balancing, we can Compose. By drawing with light, concealing with shadow, and saturating and texturing the subject, we can Illuminate. By understanding the situation, tracking movements, positions, and paths, and waiting for the exact moment, we can Capture. The sum of these five actions results in a great photograph.

Starting in November, the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Universidad Finis Terrae will host the "Architectural Criticism Laboratory" seminar. The program will be led by the ARKRIT Research Group, established in 2008 at ETSAM, which focuses on developing architectural criticism as a methodological foundation for design. In their work, the critical exercise serves as the primary driver of the design process, to the point where criticism and design can become indistinguishable.

In the past architects have almost always laid the larger focus on building envelope, active and passive energy systems, pure aesthetics or short-term economics of materials.

The academic program for the 27th edition of our Biennial will be held virtually from November 18 to 28, 2020. This year’s theme is: Architects committed to innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Terraforming is a three-year design research initiative and think-tank of Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design directed by Benjamin H. Bratton. Each program cycle runs for five months with a group of 30 Russian and international researchers. The Terraforming explores the geotechnical, geourban, and geopolitical conditions by which a viable planetarity can be conceived, modeled, and articulated.

The second phase of competitions is structured in 9+1 themes: a Research Ecosystem with the purpose of exploring each theme from different perspectives. All competitions have their focus on tackling the big issues of tomorrow, by seeking nontraditional approaches in the architecture work.
