Starting in November, the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Universidad Finis Terrae will host the "Architectural Criticism Laboratory" seminar. The program will be led by the ARKRIT Research Group, established in 2008 at ETSAM, which focuses on developing architectural criticism as a methodological foundation for design. In their work, the critical exercise serves as the primary driver of the design process, to the point where criticism and design can become indistinguishable.
If we consider that the purpose of criticism is not to pass value judgments, but rather to study the specific conditions of each work in relation to other architectural projects, fields of knowledge, and alternative theories, we can derive a flexible and open-ended perspective. This approach allows for both an accurate understanding of the work and the exploration of new paths in the trajectory of architecture. This is the core premise of the seminar.
