Semana Design Salvador brings energy to the Bahian capital
Featuring lectures and exhibitions, the event begins on October 17

Escola Coletiva de Projetos was conceived from a desire to deepen reflection, debate, and the (re)formulation of more critical thinking regarding architecture, urbanism, and construction, particularly as they relate to the Brazilian Northeast—its climate, customs, ways of life, and cities.

Conexões is the Architecture and Urbanism Congress of Southwest Bahia. In this edition, the event will focus on the theme: The Senses of Architecture. To that end, it poses the following reflection: what is the meaning of 21st-century architecture?

The "Muros de Ar" (Walls of Air) exhibition, originally presented at the Brazilian Pavilion of the 2018 Venice Biennale, is embarking on an itinerant tour, with its first stop in Beirut at the Brazil Lebanon Cultural Center.

How do you feel about your city?

In October 2018, the second edition of the Wood and Architecture exhibition, organized by the Universidad San Sebastián School of Architecture in Puerto Montt, was held in the main hall of the Puerto Montt Historical Museum. The exhibition featured work resulting from an invitation to ten young Chilean architecture firms to participate in a small wood architecture brief: a mountain shelter for a Patagonian national park. The images, plans, and models from these exercises in wood exploration, alongside models, drawings, and photographs of various expressions of woodworking by students and faculty of the USS School of Architecture, were visited by more than 3,500 people.

The 9th FAU-Mackenzie Research Forum will take place on October 21, 22, and 23. The event is organized by the Undergraduate Thesis and Research Coordination in partnership with the Graduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism at Mackenzie Presbyterian University (PPGAU). The event is supported by the Mackenzie Research Fund (MackPesquisa) and the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES).

Held since 1992, the ARQUISUR Congresses are organized by the member institutions of the Association of Public Schools and Faculties of Architecture of South America—currently composed of 28 schools and faculties from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay. The structure of ARQUISUR events reflects the three pillars of university activity: research, teaching, and outreach. Alongside these scientific events, teaching activities aimed at undergraduate students—the workshops—and the ARQUISUR Meetings take place.

Sculpture with a beginning and no end

Curated by Tiago do Vale Arquitectos and the Galician firm Santos-Mera Arquitectos, the fifth edition of Mesturas, International Architecture Meetings Galicia-Portugal, will take place from October 10 to 24, 2018, in the cities of Pontevedra, Ourense, and Vigo.

São Paulo, like other global metropolises, faces significant challenges in managing its water resources, including diffuse urban water pollution and flooding—consequences of an accelerated urbanization process that often overlooks the biophysical potential of its natural landscapes.
In this context, Green Infrastructure is recognized as a landscape design method capable of mitigating and treating water pollutants through the creation of multifunctional landscapes. These integrate Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) for ecological source-control management and adapt gray infrastructure to the hydrological cycle, while simultaneously reducing flood risks, providing opportunities for the revitalization of urban watercourses, and delivering additional ecosystem services to society.

Launch of the second ARQ Docs of 2019, The Architectures of Prediction: Truth is in the Tower, by Francesca Hughes, Director of the School of Architecture at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia. During her visit, she will deliver the keynote lecture, "The Architecture of Error."

Registration for the 21st Brazilian Congress of Architects is now open at www.21cba.com.br. Returning to Porto Alegre after 50 years, the event will take place from October 9 to 12 in the city's historic center. It will foster debate on "Space and Democracy," featuring special guests such as architects and urban planners Ermínia Maricato and Paulo Mendes da Rocha.

Women4Climate is a global movement that addresses climate change through the empowerment of women. It aims to inspire leaders, influence decisions, promote innovation, and raise awareness regarding critical urban issues, while encouraging research and action at the intersection of gender, cities, and climate change. While this phenomenon is gaining momentum in developed countries, female leadership in climate action has yet to take center stage in discussions on urban resilience in developing nations.
