The official call for entries was launched on January 26 during a ceremony at the University of Brasília's Multicultural Center for Indigenous Peoples (MALOCA/UnB) in Brasília.

The Paris Agreement is an international treaty on climate change. Adopted by 196 countries in Paris on December 12, 2015, it entered into force on November 4, 2016. Its goal is to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius—preferably 1.5 degrees—compared to pre-industrial levels. To achieve this long-term temperature goal, countries aim to peak greenhouse gas emissions as soon as possible to achieve a climate-neutral planet by mid-century.
