QUAD 2017 is seeking design proposals that capture the essence of social sustainability by addressing the various factors contributing to the three pillars of sustainability: Environment, Economy and Equity.

Szczecin – a city in north-western Poland, inhabited by over 400,000 people, is searching for an original idea to develop an area of 200 ha located in the very heart of the City. To this end, its authorities have just announced the international urban and architectural competition “Łasztownia – the New Heart of the City”. The record-breaking prizes, totalling EUR 97,900, clearly shows how serious the Mayor of Szczecin is about the Competition results.

Applications for admission to the Competition, the idea of which is to create a spatial development concept for the Międzyodrze area in Szczecin, including Łasztownia, may be submitted up to 27 March 2017.

Through the Clandon Park International Design Competition, the National Trust is searching for a world-class multidisciplinary design team to restore and reimagine Clandon Park, the Trust’s Grade I listed, 18th-century Palladian house, near Guildford in the southeast of England, which suffered a major fire two years ago.

All interested artists are invited to submit their concept ideas for the Genius Loci Weimar Festival between the opening date of 27 February 2017 up to the deadline of 09 April 2017. Submitted concepts will be displayed in a public exhibition in Weimar in May 2017. The best projects will chosen, among other means, with the help of an audience vote. The three winning projects will then be completed with the help of prize money totalling €48,000 before being shown in the context of an evening tour of Weimar, itself part of a wider festival to take place from 11 to 13 August 2017.

The Ross Pavilion International Design Competition focuses on regenerating and renewing an emblematic site at the heart of West Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh, which is presently occupied by the Ross Bandstand. This nationally-important space, positioned below Edinburgh Castle in the UNESCO World Heritage site, is the seasonal focus for some of Scotland’s most high-profile events, notably Hogmanay and the International Festival’s closing fireworks.

Ragdale, the nationally acclaimed artists’ residency in Lake Forest, Illinois invites architects, designers and artists to apply for the opportunity to design, build, and exhibit the 2017 Ragdale Ring, a temporary outdoor theatre to house summer concerts, performances, and events. The fifth Design Biennial Boston will recognize emerging architects, landscape architects, and designers who have created inspiring and innovative practices in New England. The program showcases the most significant design leaders among the region's early-career, independent professional talent through a juried exhibition, publication, and site-specific public installation on Boston’s Rose Kennedy Greenway. Up to four winners and one runner-up will be selected for 2017, based on a review of portfolios of prior work. Each winner will create an installation with a budget of up to $10,000 and gain access to the Autodesk BUILD Space in Boston’s Innovation and Design Building.

The Vyksa-10000 international contest is organized by the Art-Ovrag festival in Vyksa, Russia. The mural painting contest celebrates the 25th anniversary of the United Metallurgical Company (OMK) and the 260th anniversary of the metallurgical plant in Vyksa.

Warsaw has just announced a competition to prepare an architectural conceptual design of a bridge for pedestrians and cyclists, which will connect both shores of the Vistula by the Karowa street.

“This will be our showcase and first passage of the kind for pedestrians and cyclists over the Vistula. Over the last years, we have done a lot to bring it closer to the locals – we have built lanes and boulevards, beaches and cafés. A new bridge, in accordance with the Warsaw Mobility Policy, will substantially improve the quality of life for cyclists and pedestrians,” says Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, Mayor of the City of Warsaw.
