As an explicitly interdisciplinary project, we encourage submissions from urbanism, planning, and architectural historians; preservationists; geographers; museum curators; and independent

The second lecture of the Latin American Architecture Cycle will be led by Carlos Medellín, a member of El Equipo Mazzanti (Colombia). It will take place on Thursday, June 27, at 5:00 PM in the Marcos Winograd Auditorium, FAU47 (47th Street No. 162, La Plata).

On the night of April 15 in Paris, television networks, social media—the entire planet, in fact—watched as the Notre-Dame Cathedral burned. Tears, horror, and shock gripped the world at the prospect of seeing the most visited monument on Earth reduced to ashes; yet, after a long night, the city preserved Notre-Dame.

This year is the tenth anniversary of the first edition launched in Concepción, Chile. That pioneer meeting that embraced academics, professionals, technicians and companies from the forestry-timber sector, built the basis for productive exchanges among the countries of the region. Subsequent 2017 and 2018 meetings in Junín (Argentina) and San Carlos (Brazil), consolidated the CLEM as a synergistic forum.

In special locations where the landscape, topography, and views are fundamental, the design of these houses prioritizes these elements in their volumetric conception, siting, spatiality, and language. The work draws from local architectural traditions, materials, and construction systems, while maintaining a free-spirited approach to combining them—without hesitation—with contemporary and urban materials. This creates a unique interrelation between past and present, tradition and modernity, in harmony with the site. In terms of volumetry and morphology, the focus is on contextual harmony: an appropriate scale that does not compete with its surroundings, and a spatiality that embraces the landscape while allowing the gaze to flow toward both near and distant views. The organization is free from prejudices regarding conventional function and form, appealing to the contrast between opposites in elements, planes, and textures—smoothness and rusticity. At times, the work is dense with a variety of components, materials, and textures; at others, it is subtle, highlighting guiding elements; and in some cases, it resorts to the utmost spatial, constructive, and formal simplicity. Seeking energy and resource efficiency, the orientation of these solitary structures plays an important role in achieving climate-related comfort. Far from urban densities, explorations, recycling, and experimentation are amplified.

The country's development, driven by the construction industry, relies on the initiative of private companies. Consequently, it is essential to implement ways to promote the recognition of solutions that incorporate best practices in construction project execution, as these serve as catalysts for a better city.

PIXO Journal Issue 10 - Women and Urban Places is seeking submissions that address the theme of women and urban spaces. We are looking for research focusing on the relationship between the female body, the feminist researcher, and their theoretical and methodological approaches, challenges, traces, processes, and leads. As researchers and self-proclaimed feminists, we invoke this edition as a breath of academic struggle and resistance, highlighting the work and voices that shape the field of research on women, their various potentials, affections, and performances.

Just as the city of Barcelona cannot be understood without its coastline and its port origins, its future will be defined by its ability to manage the unpredictable effects of climate change on this unique space. The coastal front stretching between Barceloneta, the city's beaches, and the surroundings of the Besòs River is the most iconic stretch of coastline and the one with the highest intensity of use. Although scenarios regarding the effects of climate change on this maritime front by the year 2100 are not conclusive—as they are subject to global dynamics related to global warming mitigation—various studies indicate that intense changes in climate-related marine phenomena will occur in the coming years. Far from viewing these climatic dynamics as a risk, the proposal is to use them as an opportunity to reconcile the relationship between the city, its inhabitants, and the sea.

The writings collected here—concluded with a dialogue with Kenneth Frampton on the intensity of architecture—are the result of classes taught by Campo Baeza at ETSAM, his beloved Madrid School of Architecture, and many other schools around the world, following a period of quiet maturation over the last few years. "The intention of these Principia is to develop a foundational text, a summary and synthesis of the key themes with which we continue to work and which we understand, with increasing clarity each day, as central to architecture. These are not so much personal discoveries as they are essential themes of architecture itself."

Estudio Tupi invites you to its celebration of the 32nd Bloomsday Paulistano—an event honoring the life and work of Irish writer James Joyce (1882-1941), held annually on June 16. Anticipating these tributes on the eve of the event, June 15, Estudio Tupi will host Finnegans’ Eve. Promoting a celebration of the intersections between architecture, literature, and music, the event will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at 3:00 PM at the Casa de Vidro – Instituto Bardi (Rua General Almério de Moura, 200 – Vila Morumbi, São Paulo – SP).

The Archiboo Web Awards, now in their fourth year, are the only awards to highlight and celebrate the creative use of technology to communicate great architecture.

Now in its second edition, this event aims to highlight the work of women architects in shaping the built environment, their participation in creative markets, and their role as drivers of economies linked to design, architecture, and innovation.

The first edition of a book series called “The Office”. A book that looks behind the scenes and gives an insight into the architectural offices. It is not dedicated to their buildings, but rather portrays the creators, the creative people whose intellectual work lays the foundation for the creation of a building. The result is an authentic photographic report, taken from the knowledge-hungry perspective of a secret observer, a voyeurist of good design.

Oymyakon is famous as one of the Poles of Cold and is on the list of inhabited places with the most extreme conditions for human life. The notorious cold of Yakutia attracts tourists from all over the planet, including world celebrities. Oymyakon has already seen visits from Hollywood actors Tom Hardy and Ewan McGregor.
The Competition will bring together Russian and international experts in the fields of architecture, design, and development of tourism clusters, in order to uncover the potential of Oymyakon as a world center for extreme tourism. The results of the competition will be presented at the Fifth Eastern Economic Forum, which will be held on September 4–6, 2019.
