Following the success of our inaugural challenge last year, SkyCity is pleased to invite architects, designers, artists, engineers, scientists, restorers, digital nomads, craftspeople, and anyone with big ideas from around the world to participate in the SkyCity Challenge 2019: The Future of Housing. Current construction methods are impacting our environment by depleting limited resources and relying on outdated techniques. We believe that, with today’s technology, we can create far more sophisticated housing solutions that will revolutionize the future.
Ideasforward is an experimental platform that seeks progressive ideas reflecting emerging themes. Ecological design, sustainable architecture, new materials, concepts, and technologies are pressing issues in the societies of the future, and the participation of the entire community is essential. In an era of globalization, where communication has been dominated by the technological revolution, there is a need to rethink cities and how humanity relates within a global world, as well as to rethink the economic, social, and cultural patterns of contemporary societies.
Guadix, Olite, and Béjar, municipalities of the Richard H. Driehaus Architecture Competition
The second phase of the 3rd Richard H. Driehaus Architecture Competition is now underway. This international contest aims to "promote the practice of architecture and urbanism that preserves and continues local traditions" in the Spanish cities of Guadix (Granada), Olite (Navarra), and Béjar (Salamanca).
The Lisbon Architecture Triennale and Garagem Sul – Centro Cultural de Belém aim to organize a conference cycle that addresses themes of great societal relevance and facilitates the sharing of contemporary practices, bringing renowned thinkers to Lisbon with a particular focus on the European context.

Factory of Ideas and Innovation is the theme for the 12th edition of the Architecture Student Competition, a project promoted by the Brazilian Center for Steel Construction (CBCA). Interested teams must register between February 4 and July 25; teams must consist of at least two and no more than four students. Each group must be advised by a professor from the same university and may also include a co-advisor.

Competition for the creation of the Fábrica de Restauro manifesto brand
The Fábrica de Restauro Laboratory is a collaborative social mobilization project aimed at discussing historical, tangible, and intangible heritage. The proposal of the LAB Fábrica de Restauro is to train professionals from all fields—including painters, masons, carpenters, locksmiths, and architects—to provide restoration services and to engage the community in the effort to conserve these spaces.
The Lisbon Architecture Triennale and Garagem Sul at the Belém Cultural Center are organizing a series of conferences to address key societal issues and facilitate the exchange of contemporary practices, bringing leading thinkers to Lisbon with a particular focus on Europe.
Registration is open until June 30 for the National Public Competition for Architecture, Urbanism, and Landscape Design for the Morro da Manteiga Park in Camaçari, Bahia. Hosted by the Camaçari City Hall and organized by the Institute of Architects of Brazil – Bahia Department, the competition calls for a preliminary study for the implementation of a public park at Morro da Manteiga. The winning proposal will be commissioned to develop the executive project.
The Institut Ramon Llull has released the guidelines for selecting a curatorial proposal for Catalonia’s participation in the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale 2020, as part of the Eventi collaterali program. The event will take place from May 23 to November 29 of next year, with Hashim Sarkis serving as artistic director.
