Vienna Calling: Apply for a Residency on Urban Development Innovations in Vienna

Are you an architect, urbanist, or urban planner currently working in a municipality or local government in Latin America and the Caribbean (from an IDB member country) in the field of urban development and/or sustainable architecture? The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the City of Vienna, and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance invite you to apply for a two-month residency on urban development innovations with the City of Vienna government.

After the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989, Vienna, the capital of Austria, underwent a period of rapid population growth. By 1987, the city had reached 1.48 million inhabitants; by 2029, it will exceed 2 million. The city is managing its expansion through the development of large-scale urban projects, such as expansion projects and the repurposing of open spaces, including the conversion of abandoned industrial areas. New challenges, such as the current refugee crisis—which added 42,000 new residents in 2015—require new solutions for urban development.
