Competition Theme: Rural Residential Architectural Design
Competition Objective: To contribute to rural revitalization, inherit regional culture, reclaim the beauty of rural nostalgia, and reshape ecological living environments.

I. Project Background
The prosperity of the countryside is the foundation of national prosperity. In just a few years, China’s rural development has progressed rapidly—from the "New Rural Construction" and "Beautiful Countryside" initiatives to the current "Rural Revitalization" strategy. The central government has placed unprecedented importance on rural development. Because rural landscapes best reflect regional cultural characteristics and the level of local civilization, China has long been committed to developing the rural economy and improving the lives of farmers, leading to profound changes in the rural landscape. However, given the diverse backgrounds of rural areas across the country and the accelerating pace of urbanization, higher demands have been placed on rural construction. Avoiding the "cookie-cutter" phenomenon—where cities look the same—and preventing it from extending to the countryside is a complex and urgent task. It is essential to tailor development to local conditions and create unique rural landscapes.

Zhuhai’s countryside boasts both picturesque natural scenery and enduring, widely celebrated stories. With its wealth of natural and human resources, the area possesses immense potential. Yet, due to rapid development and a lack of experience, the rural landscape of Zhuhai is being tested, and some resources have already suffered varying degrees of damage. To elevate Zhuhai’s rural development, fully express its rural character, and ensure the successful inheritance of its regional cultural context, we are launching this "Zhuhai Rural Residential Architectural Design Competition" nationwide. Through this competition, we hope to mobilize forces from all sectors of society to conduct targeted research on Zhuhai’s rural housing and collect outstanding design proposals. This will contribute a remarkable chapter to the rural revitalization strategy and further enhance the beauty of Zhuhai’s countryside.

This act, along with the series of events that led to it, inspires us to reflect not only on the future of urban mobility—which is increasingly sensitive to social issues—but, more importantly, on the public's urgent demand for more leisure spaces amidst contemporary urban chaos.

PIXO Journal Issue 10 - Women and Urban Places is seeking submissions that address the theme of women and urban spaces. The Félix Candela Award is an international architectural ideas competition conducted in Spanish, held in two phases. It is organized annually by the Spanish Institute of Architecture (IESARQ) and is open to students of architecture, landscape architecture, urbanism, and design, as well as young architects, landscape architects, urbanists, and designers, participating either individually or in teams of two or three.

In its aim to launch new formats that respond to urban transformations, Concéntrico presents three open calls—"Objetos en la ciudad" (Objects in the City), "Tercer paisaje" (Third Landscape), and "Picnic en el viñedo" (Picnic in the Vineyard)—to participate in the festival in Logroño. The new edition will be held from June 19 to 24, 2025.

Since 1927, the most visited park in South America has undergone various projects, culminating in its completion for the 4th centennial of São Paulo. Following a participatory process with users and local residents, the city government has begun planning for the next decade. With this in mind, the 033 ideas competition hosted by Portal Projetar centers on the following question: “How can we make Ibirapuera Park better for daily users and occasional visitors?”

The international design competition seeks to shape the new central space in Sant Feliu, Barcelona. The goal is to solicit urban proposals for the space that will be freed up once the railway tracks are placed underground. Sant Feliu must leverage this urban project as a catalyst for the city's transformation.

The "Pedestrian Networks" competition seeks to promote a connected Antofagasta. The initiative invites participants to connect the city and develop pedestrian solutions to bring neighborhoods closer together, strengthening the hill-to-sea connection and promoting accessibility to the coastline.

The Spanish company Beltá & Frajumar, a manufacturer of home and hospitality furniture and upholstery, invites professionals, architects, and interior designers specializing in habitat environments to participate in the InterCIDEC'19 International Contract Design Competition.

How can we intervene in existing structures to improve environmental, urban, social, and economic conditions?

The third edition of the 'Proyectar a Conciencia' 3.0 competition, scheduled for the second half of 2019, addresses this question by inviting teams of 2 to 4 students, guided by an architect, to explore how to modernize existing buildings to reduce energy consumption and meet contemporary environmental goals—particularly in light of the upcoming COP25.

The issue of diasporas, observed in the displacement of populations across the globe, is a pressing topic. Everyone is in search of a dream: the city as a welcoming shelter for those whom life's adversities have expelled from their lands. To conceive of this CITY that people can call home, in times of diaspora, we need UTOPIA. The city that does not yet exist is a possible city, or even more: it is the construction of an ideal of urban experiences grounded in hospitality and solidarity.

The 5th Latin American Meeting on the Introduction to Architectural Education, hosted in the city of Concepción, Chile, is an invitation to all faculty members of architecture schools across Latin America. This edition will feature professors from as far north as Mexico and as far south as Argentina. The congress aims to strengthen and expand the network between Latin American architecture schools to train the architects of the new millennium, while creating a space for reflection on successful teaching strategies with a renewed focus on achieving meaningful learning.
