More about this product

Lamberts manufactures profiled glass solutions designed for durable, high-performance architectural applications across façades and exterior building envelopes. Lamberts patterned prismasolar EcoGlass was used in the new residential tower adjacent to the Market Hall in Basel, Switzerland.

Basel market hall

Designed by Diener + Diener Architects, the twelve-story prism-shaped tower is located near Basel SBB railway station, surrounded by banks, hotels, and the historic Market Hall. Its pentagonal floor plan responds to distance regulations and shadow minimization, resulting in a dynamic facade composition that changes in appearance depending on the viewing angle. The tower contains 45 spacious rental apartments, arranged around a central core, with varying layouts from two- and three-room apartments to larger four- and five-and-a-half-room units on the top floor. The design also includes an extra-high foyer and offices on the first floor. From the upper floors, residents enjoy panoramic views over the city and the Rhine, while the building’s carefully considered geometry allows it to harmonize with its urban context.

The facade incorporates Lamberts patterned prismasolar EcoGlass panels in a rear-ventilated system, with black and red mineral coatings on the insulation creating a subtle color play. The perforated facade rhythmically alternates three window formats with closed panels of identical size. Depending on the weather and viewing angle, the cast glass reflects light differently, creating shifting tones that integrate the building visually into its surroundings without competing with the Market Hall. The durable ornament glass provides high load-bearing capacity and long-term performance while enhancing the tower’s expressive yet contextually sensitive architectural character.
