The Barcelona La Borda residential project represents a unique community-oriented housing development, marked by its innovative construction approach and social focus. With 28 cooperative homes, La Borda is a notable example of collaborative urban planning and sustainable architecture.
Designed by Lacol Architects in partnership with Egoin, the project received recognition at the 2019 Barcelona Building Construmat (BB Construmat) for its forward-thinking construction methods and emphasis on social responsibility. Constructed on the former Can Batlló factory site, the 25.5-meter-high housing block features 28 flats designed for rental purposes.
Egoin's involvement in the project included the manufacture of 660 cubic meters of cross laminated timber (CLT) panels and 40 cubic meters of laminated Radiata pine sourced from Basque forests, highlighting the project's commitment to utilizing sustainable materials.
La Borda showcases the integration of timber-based construction solutions and addresses the growing need for socially inclusive housing initiatives. Through its pragmatic approach and focus on community well-being, La Borda sets a precedent for future urban developments seeking to combine architectural innovation with social impact.
