Vanceva gives architects and designers creative freedom by producing a broad spectrum of colors for laminated glass. The color interlayers from Vanceva can be mixed to create over 170000 transparent, translucent, or opaque colors for the desired tone and intensity. Color PVB interlayers from Vanceva were employed in Emporia, a shopping mall located in Malmö, Sweden.
Designed by Gert Wingårdh of Wingårdh Arkitektkontor, this building has two main entrances, each one made out of colored curved glass, one using bluish Vanceva color interlayers and the other one in ochre. The facade of the Emporia is a flat glass surface with a large section pulled inward and upward to create a magnificent curving entrance.
567 molds were fabricated to slump a total of 815 curved glass panels, the largest one measuring 3571 x 2718 mm. Due to the free-form geometries, the glass had to be bent using annealing techniques to obtain a high optical quality, which reduced mold marks, and a very low controlled residual stress. A key point to achieving the architect’s concept was the selection of the right product to confer color to the glass while maintaining high transparency and low hazing.
The amber color was reached by combining Vanceva Coral Rose with Vanceva Golden Light and Vanceva Smoke Grey. When it comes to the blue color close to the color of the ocean, the combination of Vanceva Sapphire and Vanceva Smoke Grey was used.
