DecoBattens in Victorian Specialist Centre | DECO Australia

The Victorian Specialist Centre in Lower Templestowe, Victoria, Australia features a day hospital, therapy gym and consultation suites. In response to the increasing understanding of the correlation between architecture and well-being, this new medical centre provides a sympathetically designed, relaxed contemporary space that is flooded with natural light and accented with moments of greenery and planting. For the design of this building, the architects - Buchan - sought to balance the needs of warm and natural materials against the practical needs for low maintenance, durable and hygeinic finishes.

The facade of the building is characterised by clean, contemporary custom-finished aluminium flat sheets by DECO which are complimented by a fresh neutral palette of white and grey that accentuates the timber-look of the aluminium panels. The aesthetic is continued into the building interior where DecoBattens line the walls, stairs, balustrades and ceiling accentuated again against a clean white colour palette. Generous skylights bring natural light into the building interior, creating a dynamic textured surface as the DecoBattens catch the sunlight and shadows from above.
