Arquitectura en Corto invites you to the Espacio Arquia in Madrid (c/ Tutor, 16) on Thursday, September 17, at 7:00 PM for the screening of the short film Amarar. The title refers to a traditional Mallorcan technique of treating wood by immersing it in water to increase its durability. This term has become the name of a sustainable design project that transforms native pine trees into contemporary furniture of high artisanal value. In collaboration with the University of the Balearic Islands, the project also researches the use of this wood in construction. The initiative is led by Francisco Cifuentes and Sebastián Martorell, founding partners of the Palma de Mallorca-based firm Aulets Arquitectes. "We have a vast forest mass on the islands," explains Cifuentes, "but 95% of the forests are abandoned. At the same time, we are importing 70,000 tons of wood for construction. Architects must build with materials that can regenerate local ecosystems. A change in the model is necessary." Directed by Marc Hierro, the short film presents several solutions proposed by Aulets Arquitectes and other project collaborators to promote responsible forest management and utilize wood as a durable, recyclable material with full traceability. Following the screening, a discussion will feature Francisco Cifuentes, Sebastián Martorell, and Albert Cuchí, author of the article "Construir el territorio," recently published in the El Croquis monograph dedicated to the architectural work of Aulets Arquitectes. "What Aulets pursues," asserts Cuchí, "is the recovery of the territory as the authentic field of action for architecture, maintaining an appropriate relationship with resources, ensuring the renewability of extraction processes, and weaving construction together with other social activities to build an ecological society."

Through this call for entries, the company reaffirms its commitment to promoting architecture as a tool for creating quality spaces and fostering the exchange of ideas among professionals and students of architecture. The competition represents an opportunity to incentivize creativity, recognize talent, and encourage proposals that address contemporary architectural design challenges.
In an environment that demands innovative, efficient, and technically rigorous solutions, this proposal addresses the design of the BAJOPONTINA S.A. Distribution Center facade, based on three essential pillars: corporate identity, urban landmark status, and technical functionality and innovation.
The scope of this National Design Competition is the facade of the future BAJOPONTINA S.A. institutional headquarters, located at the Margen Derecha Carretera Central, Paraje Acachayo, Sicaya, Huancayo, Junín, Peru.
Proposals must focus exclusively on the facade of the building designated for the company's new headquarters, considering its integration with the urban environment, the corporate identity of BAJOPONTINA S.A., and the criteria for architectural quality, functionality, sustainability, and innovation established in these Guidelines.
Participants must respect the physical and technical characteristics of the site, as well as the graphic and documentary information provided by the organizing entity, which will serve as the sole official reference for the development of the proposals.

This is a book about the amenity that we call streets and how we choose to use them to move about. What makes the street so vitally important today is that it has the capacity to allow for many different modalities of travel to coexist in the public space instead of being dominated by any single mode of travel. Glideology, an invented word, is meant to evoke memories of gliding downhill on your bicycle as a child or sledding down a hill in the winter. Glideology represents an optimistic outlook for traffic for the near future. It anticipates that common-sense will take hold and urban public space will be improved to focus on the many different reasons that one travels, short local trips, medium-distance trips of 15 minutes or less, multi-modal options to travel offer an antidote to simply defaulting to taking the car to get some milk at the corner store because this is a learned behavior that can be altered for a more sustainable and obvious options. This book explores in a comic format the many shared experiences and feelings that go into commuting in urban areas and it looks to how the street can accommodate a multi-modal approach to sharing the laneways so that real options exist for the pedestrian.
