Vkhutemas & Bauhaus: Space, Volume, Design, and Colors

The workshop focuses on executing numerous foundational exercises proposed by masters from the Soviet "Vkhutemas" school and the German "Bauhaus." These exercises, which were part of introductory curricula, involve sensory experiments regarding volume, space, form, and color theory, featuring masters such as Nikolai Ladovsky, László Moholy-Nagy, Lyubov Popova, Lyudmila Mayakovskaya, Johannes Itten, among others. Each session will feature two masters and their respective foundational experimental proposals.

SEMANAU – The UFERSA Architecture and Urbanism Week is an event hosted by the first public Architecture and Urbanism program in the semi-arid region, at the Ufersa Pau dos Ferros campus. Coordinated by faculty members Tamms Morais and Gabriel Leopoldino, the event’s primary objective is to connect students from a public university in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte with professionals, students, and researchers in architecture, urbanism, and related fields.

Tribute to César Manrique at the 5th Canary Islands Tank Festival

In the year marking the centenary of his birth, the fifth edition of the Canary Islands' Tank Festival is dedicating an event to the work and memory of artist César Manrique. The event will feature a screening of the documentary "Taro, el eco de Manrique" (58 min., Miguel G. Morales), a feature film that brings us closer to the figure and ecological message of the Spanish artist, born in Lanzarote, through his own voice, reflections, actions, and projects. His involvement, his advocacy, his confrontations with authorities and developers, and his commitment to the cultural and landscape values of Lanzarote transformed him into a symbol, adding a socio-political dimension to his creative personality. The screening will be followed by a discussion between the documentary's director, Miguel G., and architect Fernando Menis. This event is held in collaboration with the César Manrique Foundation and the Hatching Festival.

Biselli Katchborian Arquitetos Book

With a 32-year history, the firm of Mario Biselli and Artur Katchborian has designed projects across all scales and themes: residences, public and private buildings, commercial and service projects, schools, sports centers, and urban planning initiatives. Their architecture seeks to understand and respond to Brazil's economic and cultural transformations. On June 18, they will launch a book marking this milestone at the Museu da Casa Brasileira. Published by Acácia Cultural, Biselli Katchborian Arquitetos provides a holistic approach to the work developed over more than three decades.

The legacy of Brazilian modernism is currently the subject of intense revisionism and serves as a central reference for many contemporary works, including those that reject its principles. This course seeks to historically define the category of "the modern" within the fields of architecture and design in Brazil, understanding its emergence in the context of the formation of a national identity.

A new initiative from the cultural center, the project ‘Japan at the Pritzker: Architectural Legacy in the Contemporary Scene’ celebrates the fact that Japan is the most represented country in the Pritzker Prize. To kick off the series, Kazuyo Sejima of the duo SANAA, winner of the 2010 Pritzker Prize, will give a lecture on her solo career and her work within the architecture firm SANAA, as well as present recent projects, on September 9th at 7:00 PM.
