IAAC Global Summer School 2018

The Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) is pleased to announce the Global Summer School 2018, the 11th edition of the international program on the future of our cities, which will take place in Barcelona and other nodes simultaneously from July 2 to 14, 2018.

San Francisco is the fourth most populous city in the State of California, with a population of approximately 860,000 inhabitants spread across 121 km². Located on the West Coast of the United States, at the tip of the San Francisco Peninsula, it is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west and connected to the mainland only from the south.

Call for Ideas: The Big Tiny Coffee House Challenge

Coffee culture is booming, and Northern Europe holds the official title for the world's largest coffee consumers. Countries such as Finland, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden all rank in the top ten, with annual consumption reaching up to 12 kg per person.

Concepción: Inhabiting the (at the) Edge

This ideas competition considers water landscapes, and more specifically rivers, as mediators in the necessary harmonic and dynamic balance that must exist between cities and nature. The fluvial (geomorphological) restoration approach will be used to revitalize a river, thereby understanding its natural system to inform design adapted to that system.

First Article Competition of the Viès Arquitetônico Portal

The Viès Arquitetônico portal will launch the first print version of Viès Arquitetônico magazine in the second half of this year. To contribute to this edition, an article with an urban theme will be selected through a national online competition. The competition is open to higher education students and graduates from any field of study.

Other Territories – International Call for Urban Intervention Projects

Vazio S/A, Coletivo Aurora, and Eduardo de Jesus are launching Outros Territórios (Other Territories) – an International Call for Urban Intervention Projects. The initiative aims to gather a series of ephemeral interventions for Buritis, a mountainous neighborhood in Belo Horizonte, enabling an instantaneous transformation of its landscape by simultaneously occupying the "stilt-like" structures (exposed beams and pillars) of various buildings.

Real estate in Sydney remains out of reach for the majority of the young population.

Session 241. Esteban Suárez "Polygamous Architecture"

BNKR Arquitectura is an architecture, urbanism, and research firm based in Mexico City, founded by Esteban Suárez in 2005. The firm has experimented with architecture at the widest possible scale, ranging from small, iconic private chapels to master plans for entire cities. BNKR is a multidisciplinary practice composed of architects, urban planners, and designers. They provide unique, unconventional solutions to specific problems, moving beyond the pursuit of a particular style or signature. The firm has received several international awards, including first place at the 2014 Iconic Awards in Germany, the 2014 International Architecture Awards in Chicago, the 2013 Architizer A+ Awards in New York, the 2012 Quito Biennial in Ecuador, the 2011 AZURE Awards in Toronto, and the 2012 Building of the Year award from Plataforma Arquitectura in Chile.

Applications for the 2019 Admissions Process at Escola da Cidade

Escola da Cidade – Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism announced this Wednesday the schedule and rules for the 2019 Admissions Process for its undergraduate program in Architecture and Urbanism. Registration begins today, August 20, and runs through December 10. The exams will take place on December 11, 12, and 13.
