iPAC 2021-2022: Mud Futures is a year-long global multi-host multi-location conclave on the futures of mud in architecture is conceptualised and conducted by the School of Art and Architecture, Sushant University, Gurugram, India. The conclave is an opportunity for a for ideas, thoughts, research and architectural projects centred around mud across various countries. Here, mud is considered as a material, as an approach, as a vehicle for sustainability, and as the source of an ideological imperative for the future of the built environment. iPAC 2021-2022: Mud Futures brings practitioners and academicians together to deliberate on a material that has its genesis in the past, yet is versatile enough to respond to the technological advancements of the future. The European Cultural Centre presents the fifth edition of the extensive biennial architecture exhibition with the title TIME SPACE EXISTENCE. The exhibition will open in parallel with Biennale Architettura on May 22nd, 2021, and it will run until November 21st, 2021 at Palazzo Bembo, Palazzo Mora and Giardini della Marinaressa, with press previews and opening events in each location on May 20th and 21st.
Internationally acclaimed architect Chad Oppenheim, editor of Lair: Radical Homes and Hideouts of Movie Villains, examines the compelling and seductive abodes of movie villains. The villain’s lair is much more than where the megalomaniac goes to get some rest. Instead, the homes of the villains are places where evil is plotted and where, often, the hero is tested and must prove him/herself. In Lair, readers are invited to explore the architecture of villainy through rich content that includes in-depth visual and written material and a striking graphic design that features silver ink on black paper.

Presenting sounds, archival drawings, and cartographic representations, the exhibition Radio-Activities aims to raise awareness of the contemporary role of the built environment by examining the time when the intricate worlds of politics, aesthetics, and information technologies began to populate the ether. The exhibition is the outcome of research conducted by the Chilean architect Alfredo Thiermann on the infrastructure built for radio in Berlin, starting in the Weimar Republic and running up to the Cold War period.

The European Union intends to be climate neutral by 2050. This will require decarbonization at all levels of the economy, and the construction sector will have a particularly key role to play. The sector accounts for around 40% of CO2 emissions globally, and steel and concrete, in particular, require enormous amounts of energy to produce. There needs to be a paradigm shift to replace these building materials and their associated environmental impact. Natural and renewable building materials play a crucial role in this.
Renovating a space for a gastronomic purpose can be one of the most interesting challenges for an architect, due to the freedom of design that tends to characterize these projects. It allows us to play with cladding materials, lighting, and furnishings to create unique spaces that are both attractive and functional for both the restaurant team and the diners.
We dived into our project library to select 5 restaurants that took advantage of their renovations and complexities to create distinctive spaces, presented by ICEX e Interiors from Spain.
Solar technology has enormous potential, but it has been underutilized. To get an idea of just how underutilized it is, consider that every 24 hours the amount of sunlight that hits the Earth could provide energy for the entire planet for 24 years. Of course, it is necessary to collect it properly, through photovoltaic systems. With the climate crisis increasingly present in our daily lives, causing growing concerns about obtaining energy from renewable sources and reducing carbon emissions, using the sun's possibilities to generate clean energy seems to be a path of no return. But there are still some difficulties that reduce its use, such as obtaining economical solar products, aesthetics, availability of these products, regulations, and even installation issues.
Building-integrated photovoltaics, or BIPVs, offer the design and construction industry solutions to typical challenges that hinder adoption of solar energy. Below, we list the main challenges of incorporating solar energy into projects and how they can be overcome.
