This year is the tenth anniversary of the first edition launched in Concepción, Chile. That pioneer meeting that embraced academics, professionals, technicians and companies from the forestry-timber sector, built the basis for productive exchanges among the countries of the region. Subsequent 2017 and 2018 meetings in Junín (Argentina) and San Carlos (Brazil), consolidated the CLEM as a synergistic forum.

Dronesphere Colloquium, through a series of panels and presentations, will address the place of aerial robotics in the city.
It will feature presentations by scholars from design practice, art, architectural history, surveillance studies and engineering. The drone’s “place” within the city will be triangulated through speculative proposals, historical analysis, and a critical engagement with their use in the present.

Aerial Futures: Leading Edge is lively, provocative and interdisciplinary symposium examining the architecture, technologies and cultures of the contemporary airport. Curated by PLANE—SITE and free to attend, this two-day event understands the airport as a choreographed topography of hypermobility, information and cultures, defining how we travel, trade and connect with each other. It marks the threshold between land and sky, as well as sovereign territories. The airport — what the philosopher Giorgio Agamben describes as a ‘zone of exception’ where the ordinary rules no longer apply — is where the definitive issues of the 21st century play out.
On 5 July the book ‘After Piraeus’ will be launched at a festive gathering in Pakhuis De Zwijger, Amsterdam.
In 1994, the housing block Piraeus was completed to the design of Hans Kollhoff. It was a blow. German architects were needed to demonstrate that a design did not need to be at odds with the Dutch construction culture. Piraeus must be taken as a pivotal point in modern history, after which the thinking on the production of buildings and city were newly charged.

‘Global Architectural Political Events’ are a series of public debates organised by Alejandro Zaera-Polo & Guillermo Fernandez-Abascal that continue the investigation about the political re-engagement of the discipline, as analysed in the essay ‘Well into the 21st Century’ and the ‘Global Architectural Compass’.
Thanks to parametric design and digital fabrication it is now possible to massproduce non-standard, highly differentiated products, from shoes and tableware to furniture and now even houses. Variety no longer compromises the efficiency and economy of production. Furthermore, parametric definitions of products’ geometry are made accessible via interactive websites to anyone, who could then design their own, unique versions of the product. Such “democratization” of design – through mass-customization – raises many interesting questions such as the authorship of design and the functional and esthetic quality of products (shoes, tableware, furniture, houses…) designed by non-designers. This symposium explores social, cultural and design implications of this emerging “design democracy”, including its technological origins.
The Unmentionables Symposium is an inaugural two-day event hosted by the Department of Interior Architecture at Woodbury University School of Architecture and held at Helms Design Center in Culver City, April 7-8, 2017. Coinciding with the 85th anniversary of the university’s Interior Architecture program, the event highlights critical latent issues within the discipline today. Themed Melange, Archcult 2017 seek to explore beyond the boundaries that define Architecture. As one of the countless offshoots of the universal discipline of design. We hope to introduce new avenues for aspiring architects to explore and a platform for building connections, widening horizons and paving pathways towards redefining design and embodying the true spirit of melange every step of the way.
An exhibition that comprises of sketches of 20 internationally renowned architectural minds will be on display at Gallery 1AQ, a gallery in the foreshadow of the iconic Qutab Minar, an ancient Mughal monument from 3 - 21 February, 2017. Along with the exhibit, there will be interactive events over 3 weeks where design powerhouses from around the globe and across different platforms will be presenting. The same has been curated by the Verendra Wakhloo and Rachit Srivastava.

As curators we understand narrative to be a tool that creative individuals can use in their process and outcome.
