Dutch urban planners POSAD have recently been awarded an honourable mention for their proposal in the international competition for the Solar Park south in Calabria Italy which was hosted by New Italian Blood. The Dutch practice was selected out of more than two-hundred entries worldwide. In the competition architects and urban planners were invited to share their vision in transforming a part of the decommissioned ‘Solar – highway’ into a sustainable public area.

POSAD proposed a park which re-uses the abandoned highway-infrastructure to create a reinforcing public scape which can be enjoyed throughout different timeframes and methods of transport. It may be regarded as a research campus and a recreational route at the same time. Becoming both a destination as a route to innovation and sustainability. The balance of the harsh hillsides and the graceful ribbon of the former highway will provide a perfect setting for the juxtaposition of art and engineering.
