Trends Report: Small Scale Homes

A large percentage of a city’s building stock is designated for housing. Considering that our way of life is changing significantly, housing in cities has also begun to follow these changes. This creates interesting challenges and opportunities for the materials suppliers in this industry.

A new, smaller housing type has emerged that seeks to expand the existing housing repertoire: small scale homes. Whether as a movement in response to ideological situations or financial ones, architects have become more involved in the development of practical and innovative solutions for small spaces. The Tiny Houses (+75% interest vs last year) concept emerged strongly at the beginning of 2018.

Furthermore, the high levels of interest in living in dense urban centers is leading to the challenge of designing basic housing programs, as well as finding materials that can create adequate interiors with high standards of comfort for spaces under 40 m2. (Searches related to Small Apartments increased by 121% in 2019).
