Text description provided by the architects. A memory of the Place is not only for the men who have experience of it and have something to do with it. The memory should be easily experienced and learned indirectly through various kind of image of the contemporary city and architecture. That is the reason that I tried to actualize the construction that reflects the diverse histories and memories of the place in the present time.

The experience of the construction creates an image and that becomes the memory of the space. As the area that has such past-reminding memories as The film “Friend”, “The Sanbok Road” and The period of Japanese occupation inspired by an image of fresh contemporary building and instilled a history-traceable schema, create various scenes. An image of massive architecture of the city and a tiny fragmented image of “The Sanbok Road” are formed the whole picture of the construction and the image spatially expends through the pieces of the windows.

I created the modeling of the form with the process to extend one-dimensional line to the three-dimension and keep vertically recombine together. The facade itself displays a subtle difference of this process and every spaces made with the same way gives different impression. The stair inside the building allows us to feel that as if we are climbing up the step and alleyway of “The Sanbok Road” which naturally appears the image of the space. This kind of thing makes it possible to regard the connection between the city and architecture as an image and also overcome the spatiotemporal limitation.
