SECCIÓN B ARQUITECTURA SLP. receives the commission for the partial demolition of an unfinished building to recover the volume of the building that was previously on the site. We were to design a project that would render compatible the recovery of the volume with the neighbor program (spaces for neighborhood organizations, Information Point for Women, adult education and multipurpose room).

Project

- Ecodesign, to achieve the maximum energy efficiency.

- Privacy for the neighbors.

- Maximum comfort, designing all rooms with natural lighting and ventilation.

To reconcile all of this, it is necessary to open courtyards that provide natural light and ventilation to the basement. The gap of the basement ramp is used, and a central and secondary courtyards are opened. This generates a volume composed of two bodies connected by a courtyard, that becomes the heart of the project formally and functionally.

Courtyards

The perimeter of the main courtyard is set using an auxiliary structure that will support the vegetation in planters at different levels, offsetting the volumes of the built areas that have a clear horizontal component. It features vertical and horizontal connections between uses. The conformation of the courtyard as a vegetal structure provides the necessary sun protection to exposed westward facades, while a fountain behind it transforms it into a cold sink (thanks to the evaporation of water in a shaded atmosphere).

Built Volumes

Functionally, the buildings are arranged along the east-west axis (Aldayas Street-Los Luceros Square), while their north and south facades are closed completely to avoid overlooking neighbors. The interior walls are made of glass, giving visual continuity and functional clarity to the building. On the exterior walls, a similar enclosure overlaps, a second skin that works as a visual filter and ensures safety.

Urban Environment

The rest of the plot remains unused, generating an ample and direct connection between Los Luceros Square and Aldaya Street.

Program

Neighborhood Entities, with increased demand, occupy the entire basement, where many people can congregate without compromising the functioning of the rest of the building. The training center is located on the ground floor for easy access and to have greater representation. On the first floor lies the multipurpose room, with a wide hall and terrace.

Constructive Systems

The existing concrete structure has been consolidated and expanded with a metal structure. The opaque enclosures are defined by a ventilated facade with EURONIT ® panels. The glass facades have windows with an air chamber and STRUGAL ® aluminum frames. In external facades, these are complemented by weathering steel plates.

Partition wall consist of MOVINORD ® removable panels (glass or vinyl coated) to ensure maximum functional flexibility. Floors combine natural stones with PVC linings and industrial parquet. From the first sketches, we investigated eco-design criteria for maximum possible energy efficiency in the building.
