Glass Systems in Dark Chalet House | OTIIMA USA

OTIIMA is an innovative minimal frame window and door system. Its 3/4” sight lines, limitless size, and configurations are backed by a great warranty. 54 Series glass systems from OTIIMA were used in the private residence Dark Chalet, located in the exclusive Ski Powder Mountain resort in Utah, United States.

Placed on Summit's Powder Mountain, this house is part of a community planned to bring together entrepreneurs and thought leaders worldwide. It is both a private residence and a venue for events addressing contemporary issues. Since the architects needed a high-performance triple-glazed system for this project due to the extreme altitude and cold, OTIIMA products were chosen. They provided a great solution for a huge glass ‘lens’ with minimal frames and mullions.

The design’s small footprint and expansive upper level create spatial tension with the ground. A series of chunky, interconnected masses follow the natural slope of the mountain before lifting off of its contour to allow skiers to pass beneath. The exterior skin is a patchwork of matte and glossy black panels that form a layer of secondary articulation distinct from the massing they cover. Black glass solar panels are embedded into the glossy patches, allowing their function to disappear into the background.
