Barfold Estate is a vineyard, winery and farm located in the Southwest corner of the Heathcote wine region, a 75-minute drive north of Melbourne. The client approached LAYAN to design a generous yet simple building to provide accommodation to guests visiting the vineyard.
Above the city level, located on top of one of the central neighborhood's hills, a sloping terrain gives way to the Asa de Borboleta Residence. Adopting the lifestyle and preferences of the family, the project approached the contemporary applied to the location and the direction of the land to the city related to the path of the sun.
Picket House is a two-storey addition to a freestanding Edwardian timber house, on a corner block, at the top of a hill in Northcote. The old part of the house has been re-roofed and internally upgraded and now forms the sleeping quarters. The new addition has a kitchen, dining, and living, with a pantry, powder room, and laundry along the southern side. The living area is double-height to maximize light and volume. The first floor has a multi-functional open space and access to an external deck.
The Day Center located on street 20 de Julio is a project exclusively designed for the recreation and entertainment of the elderly, taking into account their needs, tastes, and interests. It is for this reason that it is built on a single floor, avoiding the vertical displacement of the senior users of the space.
"Hollow villages" are a common phenomenon in China rural areas. Most of the aboriginal households of the village have moved to the new rural residential areas, leaving their dilapidated homesteads. Considering the cultural heritage in Yu County such as paper-cutting, wood crafting, and ‘Fiery Trees and Silver Flowers’, the Fortune Art (FA) Homestay selected Xiyaotou Village, out of 100 villages in Yu County, as the beginning of village poverty alleviation. The village has been transformed into communal farms to provide local villagers with income via offering accommodation, local food services, and activities. The rural revitalization project of Xiyaotou Village started with the 2018 FA Emerging Architect Award. "Grotto Retreat Xiyaotou" is one of the 12 winning designs.
Wutopia Lab has been commissioned by Sino-Ocean Group to create a monologue art museum on the park green of SEATOPIA in Beidaihe, Qinhuangdao, dedicated to an infinite minority of people who want to be free from worldly distractions. It was completed and opened to the public in July 2022. Queen Dido created the great Carthage by cutting cow skin into thin strips and circling a piece of land. In an open green space at the intersection of three residential clusters in the Weilan Coast campus, I broke up the 1,300 square meter building into different monoliths combined with walls, corridors, and ambiguous spaces into a triangular-shaped 3,600 square meter place, the Monologue Art Museum.
Located in a resort on the outskirts of Guangzhou, the Levitated Curtain is an iconic building for wedding ceremonies and public events. In Guangzhou, weddings usually start at 7 am, but the ceremony only begins around 6 pm, then Xi Hall will serve as a multifunctional space for dining, photo shooting, reception, and several other purposes during the day, and becomes a sacred place for the wedding ceremony at nightfall. When there are no weddings, Xi Hall which sits in the center of the resort will be a perfect location for sightseeing and allow public events for different occasions.
A storage facility for archiving furniture, products, and artwork in Miyota-machi, Nagano Prefecture, with a guesthouse attached. Located in a quiet and nature-rich environment where streams weave through a thick forest of red pine, the tunnel-like architecture took shape through a combination of precast and prestressed construction methods.
The house is set on the upper city slopes of Table Mountain, at the edge of the Mountain Reserve. It sits in a beautiful established garden site with mature wild plum trees and terraces stepping down towards the street. The house plan is a rectangle arranged across the slope, reusing the retaining walls and footprint of an older structure, so as not to disturb the existing trees and garden. The House opens onto three separate garden terraces, at different levels.
Often times in architecture, the way that a project's ability of its underscored elements to subtly carry a dialogue with the existing site is one of the most powerful moments in design. Swimming pools are a great example of these types of projects, since their designs often are a direct response to a variety of existing site conditions, including occupying both inside and outside spaces, assuming different forms, and incorporating a variety of finishes that might completely transform the aesthetic of the space.
The project starts with the aim proposed by Mango to develop the space identity for its new Mango Teen shops in collaboration with its internal team. Previously, Mango’s team already had developed a series of pop-ups to test several parameters for its new design. Amongst them, the use of color was highlighted as one of the most relevant in their temporary stores. On the other side in the briefing, it was specified that the store needed to have a high experiential and interactive attraction.
Being respectful to each other is, presently, the major issue of being a human, and so be the architecture. This house is built for a man who desperately loves dogs. In the beginning, he desired to build a place, not only for him to live, but it must be a place for his dogs to enjoy as much as they want. He also desires to share his happiness and his beloved dogs’ happiness with other dog lovers by accommodating a part of his dog’s house as a hotel where other dogs can share facilities and meet each other in the place, including dog care and salon corner to the back house, and also the waiting area in front of the project for the human who wants to see their beloved dog’s activities during the dog’s treatment program.

Belvue School is a secondary school for boys and girls with moderate to severe learning difficulties and a range of other additional needs. The school site sits adjacent to an under-utilized woodland which the school is managing as an educational nature reserve. In 2014 the school had already raised enough money to install two shipping containers to act as storage and support spaces for the woodland but approached Studio Weave to enquire whether it would be possible to achieve some more flexible, larger extracurricular spaces with a similar budget.
Ph Superí is located in the City of Buenos Aires on the border of the Coghlan and Saavedra neighborhoods. It's a low-density area four blocks from Saavedra Park, between Crámer and Balbín avenues.
The new ‘Design in Motion office’ has been constructed on the land where is planned to add one more building in the future, therefore this new office building had to be built merely on half of the land for supporting that plan. Because of that, this office was set in the vertical direction as a three-story building within the boundary of 10 by 10 meters. The building is also placed adjacent to one edge of the land on one side, and on the other side is prepared to connect to the future building with a large balcony on the upper floor.
Disappeared architecture. In the summer garden, the plants are in a more natural and wild state, and the original clear boundaries fade away, with plants staggering in height, creating an experience from enclosure to seclusion and then to openness. The teahouse is located at the eastern end of the garden. Walking along the stone-paved path is like a natural exploration of the garden, and the outline of the teahouse emerges from the staggered trees.
Urban Role within the Intervention Sector. Site / Situation. The building is located in a new development on the outskirts of the City of Cordoba, Argentina. This peripheral sector was, long ago, the center of industrial activities. The San Ignacio Community Center is a private proposal for a public space where the local community is responsible for the activities and the maintenance of the architecture. The building's main purpose is to activate social processes for community development. It was designed to promote social assemblies and the community´s participation in urban planning.
