New European Architecture Platform LINA Supporting Emerging Professionals Launches in June

A new European architecture platform will launch in June this year, with the scope of supporting emerging architects and at the same time mobilizing the profession's efforts in delivering a sustainable, circular built environment. Operating on a grant from the Creative Europe initiative, LINA brings together 28 European and Mediterranean organizations from 23 countries, among which are several European biennials, triennials and festivals, museums, research networks and laboratories, publishing houses and universities. A successor to the Future Architecture platform, the initiative will be coordinated by the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Ljubljana and directed by Matevž Čelik.

Nowadays, architecture museums, galleries, publishing houses, foundations, and experimental laboratories all have rooms to show their backstage, bringing about debates and proposals of the future of architecture. This is all part of Future Architecture Rooms, a project launched early this week on the Future Architecture Platform which showcases a collection of online spaces, each hosted by one institution and one member of the platform. We talked with the concept curator, Anastassia Smirnova (SVESMI) to better understand how the idea behind this project emerged, and what innovations it can present in the way of working on exhibitions and architecture.

Matevž Čelik on Future Architecture Platform and Coming Changes

In the middle of February, we were invited to visit Ljubljana and attend the Matchmaking Conference organized by Future Architecture Platform -- an organization, coordinated by Ljubljana's Museum of Architecture and Design (MAO), that provides young talents with the opportunity to share their ideas -- practical or conceptual -- and meet fellow emerging architects. The three-day event gathered 25 teams from all over the world to present their projects and discuss potential collaborations.

Future Architecture Announces 2020 Fellows

The Future Architecture Platform has announced the final list of Fellows for 2020. With 433 ideas from 53 countries, over 800 applicants in individual and group applications participated. Fellows will be invited to the 2020 Creative Exchange in MAO Ljubljana, exchanging ideas and networking to find avenues toward international recognition.

Future Architecture Platform Reveals 2017 Laureates

Following a second call for ideas from the Future Architecture Platform (MAO), a total of 337 ideas by 594 authors from 56 countries were submitted and distributed for public vote. 14,381 valid votes were logged by the organisation, and Assembling Narratives by Danai Toursoglou Papalexandridou (Greece) was chosen the favorite. She is one of a further 24 selected creatives who will be invited to participate at the Matchmaking Conference in late February at the Museum of Architecture and Design (MAO) in Ljubljana.

Archifutures Vol. 1: The Museum presents the last chapter of the first Future Architecture cycle and is the first part of a new three-volume field guide to the future of architecture. The collection maps contemporary architectural practice and urban planning, presented through the words and ideas of some of its key players and change-makers. From institutions, activists, thinkers, curators and architects to urban bloggers, polemicists, critics and publishers, these are the people shaping tomorrow’s architecture and cities – and thereby helping to shape our societies of the future as well.

After a successful first cycle of activities in the initial year, Future Architecture platform launches a new call for ideas for all who wish to participate in the Future Architecture program cycle throughout Europe in 2017. The platform invites emerging creatives to apply with the ideas, visions and projects they consider important for the future of architecture. Applicants should articulate the relevance of their application to the future of architecture, whether as an architectural statement, a social practice, a business model, as new construction technique, as production of living space, or other subject, which the applicants consider to be inevitable or highly relevant to the debates on the future of architecture in Europe. All applications will be published on the website of the Future Architecture platform. By entering, each applicant is automatically added to the list of artists and professionals that may be invited to participate at exhibitions, conferences, lecture series, workshops and other events organized by the members of the platform.

Public Vote Selects A Collection Of 'Future Architecture' Ideas

The results of the 2015 Future Architecture Call for Ideas have been announced, "revealing the critical thinking of the currently emerging generation of designers and architects in relation to the existing models that shape architecture as a discipline." Submissions presented visions "of what architecture could be, and highlighted architects and designers as initiators of change in the larger societal picture." As the first pan-European platform of architecture museums, festivals and producers, it has been designed to both bring together ideas about the future of cities and architecture closer to the wider public.
