De la Piedra Chapel / Nomena Arquitectos + Ximena Alvarez The de la Piedra Chapel is located at the margin of the Lurín river and beside the Lomas de Castilla hill, in the district of Cieneguilla, east of the city of Lima. Edcouch-Elsa ISD Fine Arts Center / Kell Muñoz Architects This building evolved from significant public conversations with students, parents, teachers and community activists, working with historians, curators, folklorists, artists and architects to envision a community gathering place. Mountain Dwellings / BIG with JDS The Mountain Dwellings are the 2nd generation of the VM Houses – same client, same size and same street. The program, however, is 2/3 parking and 1/3 living. What if the parking area became the base upon which to place terraced housing – like a concrete hillside covered by a thin layer of housing, cascading from the 11th floor to the street edge? Sauna in Ranco / Panorama The project is situated in Ranco in the lake district – Chile, over a dark granite rock at the shore surrounded by mountain cypresses. The project consists of a sauna with a roofed terrace and a changeroom, each of them looking towards different views from the rock to the lake. Esseker Center / Produkcija 004 In 2002 we won an urban architectural competition for one of the rare not built plots in the historical center of Osijek. Urban part has to give a solution that will connect the main city square and the promenade along Drava River. The building has to put together: public garage, shopping center, offices and the housing on one side and to fit into the existing urban tissue on the other side (read more…)

Sky Garden House / Guz Architects This house is located on a new housing estate on the island of Sentosa adjacent to Singapore. The plots are not large and neighbouring buildings are built close to the sides of each house. Thus our strategy was to build a solid wall to each side neighbor to provide privacy where possible, while creating a central light and stair well which would funnel the sea breeze through the centre of the building (read more…)

Spectacles Jeux Restaurant / Malcotti Roussey Architectes This project is located in the space that was left free in the ancient saline, a place that was partially destroyed. It is situated in Salins-les-Bains near the museum, which is being restored (see the museum fact sheet). In March 2007, a fire took place in the former and major building of the saline called « pardessus ». It included a restaurant, an auditorium and a gambling room (read more…)

Leti 360 / Studio Mumbai Located at 2350 m (7700 ft.) above sea level, Leti 360 resort is perched on a promontory in the foothills of the Indian Himalayas. The site is a two hour walk from the nearest motorable road and is accessed by a narrow footpath carved into the mountainside, part of a network of trails used by local villagers for daily travel and transport (read more…)

Rothoblaas limited Company / monovolume The Rothoblaas office is a large scale commercial operation specializing in assembling systems and power tools for the woodworking industry. Warehouse and commissioning are situated on the ground floor and a showroom can be found on the upper floor. The 4th Gymnasium / HVDN Until recently, the area in the Houthavens was an open, undefined space with scattered placed industrial buildings. Meanwhile, due to problems with the development-zoning plan, the area is temporarily in use. By now it has changed into a lively spot, a “place to be” for the city with several restaurants, artist studios and student housing (read more…)

New Acropolis Museum / Bernard Tschumi Architects Located in the historic of Makryianni district, the Museum stands less than 1,000 feet southeast of the Parthenon. The top-floor Parthenon Gallery offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the Acropolis and modern Athens. The Museum is entered from the Dionysios Areopagitou pedestrian street, which links it to the Acropolis and other key archeological sites in Athens (read more…)

Eva’s bed / h20 architectes The arrival of a new child in the family pressed a young couple to think about a way to divide a room into two parts. The idea was to provide a personnal space to each child. The projet answers to this request of separation by adding a third space making the partition. The creation of a “multiple-use furniture” in the middle of the space allows to add some depth to the primary basic partition. Dallas Cowboys Stadium / HKS Designed to be open or closed, depending on weather conditions, the expansive retractable roof is the largest of its kind in the world and measures approximately 660,800 square feet. When closed, the roof encompasses 104 million cubic feet of volume, making it the largest enclosed NFL stadium in the world (read more…)

Palomar Welcome Center / Johnsen Schmaling Architects As the harbinger of a large-scale development slated for LEED certification, the Palomar Welcome Center utilizes an abandoned one-story warehouse building on the edge of Milwaukee’s Park East redevelopment corridor. The area, an urban desert formerly occupied by an underused freeway spur, is slated to be transformed into the Palomar District, a series of mixed-use projects that will connect downtown to the adjacent neighborhoods (read more…)
