The fifth edition of the internationally renowned FABRICATE conference will take place April 4 – 6, 2024 in Copenhagen at The Royal Danish Academy - Architecture, Design, Conservation.

Co-Chaired by Professors Mette Ramsgaard Thomsen and Phil Ayres of Centre for Information Technology and Architecture, FABRICATE 2024 will build upon and extend its legacy as a prime place of exchange on the cutting-edge of new forms of design and construction and material thinking in architecture, engineering, and building. FABRICATE 2024 asks how rethinking architectural methods, technology, and construction can create a new societal position for the built environment, placing a particular focus on questions of resource consciousness and bio-based design and fabrication strategies.

By now,  it is clear that technology has taken over almost every aspect of our lives. It has changed the way we communicate, how we connect, how we work and study, and has even modified our buying and eating habits.  Architecture and construction were not the exceptions, and technology is also now present in the way it is being thought, designed, and built.

We’re in an age of unprecedented technological innovation. The architecture and construction industries are increasingly becoming more and more automated, as firms seek to take full advantage of new machinery and new ways of working to make the design process more efficient. With this increase in automation, however, comes lots of questions too. Will robots ever replace architects? Will the near future see a fully automated construction industry? A pertinent question, too, is the complicated case of automation and the individuality of design – does automation take away from the individuality of design?

A project of relevant scale is rarely a single Man’s work. From the village barn raising events done in the 18^th and 19^th century to the standard taskforce that a project developer engages nowadays, a build structure requires many hands on-board, bringing forth different inputs and expertise to shape and execute it.
