The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) is pleased to announce its 6th International Student Tall Building Design Competition. The goal of the competition is to shed new light on the meaning and value of tall buildings in modern society.
Every summer, SCI-Arc opens its doors to students and young professionals from multiple disciplines and diverse backgrounds seeking to explore the field of architecture from the school’s distinctive vantage point of hands-on design and experimentation. The Making+Meaning summer program offers participants a unique opportunity to be a part of the vibrant design community at SCI-Arc as they work on projects to jumpstart or enhance a design portfolio. This immersive workshop runs from July 10th – August 4th and is now open for registration.
Masters of wooden architecture and design, Kengo Kuma & Associates, expert of portable architecture, Robert Kronenburg, prestigious architectural and design studios, Local Architecture Network (France) and SKREI (Portugal), and International landscape and urban designers, Groundlab will be some of the most inspiring guests at Hello Wood international summer school & festival for the arts and architecture this coming summer. This year promises to be a unique one as the three-year-long architectural experiment and research programme called Project Village—exploring the relationship between communities and their built environment by building its own settlement—comes to its final stage calling new participants to question, respond to, build on, or dissect the existing artefacts, concepts and ideas. In a special year, special participants are needed: Hello Wood calls for team leaders and students to apply to the summer school and festival (1-9 July 2017) and join the continued exploration of building a community settlement, responding to the theme "Shaping Communities: Courtyards." The College of Environmental Design offers several introductory and advanced programs for those interested in exploring these questions in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture and environmental planning, urban design and sustainable city planning.

The 2017 Visiting School to Chile aims at studying from architectural, urban, and territorial perspectives, a series of infrastructures that since the 1960s have been installed in Rapa Nui (Easter Island) because of its extraordinary strategic location in the South Pacific Ocean. These include satellite tracking equipment, seismology and GPS tools, and radio-nuclear detection instruments that came to define global technological projects in the island. In particular, the workshop will focus its attention in the Mataveri Airport which – being the remotest runway in the world – was paved in the 1960s by the United States for the installation of a (currently abandoned) strategic base and extended again by NASA in the 1980s to become emergency landing for space shuttles. The island, in opposition to usual associations to isolation, was instead expedient for the setting of larger technological networks.
The Paolo Soleri Amphitheater Gallery at the 2016 SITE Santa Fe Biennial
SANTA FE—Architect Conrad Skinner’s five-year research project into the history of the Paolo Soleri Amphitheater plays a lead role in much wider than a line, SITE Santa Fe’s 2016 biennial dedicated to new art from the Americas. The exhibition which features 35 artists and two archival projects including Skinner’s, runs at SITE Santa Fe through January 8, 2017.

Christopher Grimes Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new works by Veronika Kellndorfer. This body of work stems from her 2015 solo exhibition at the Casa de Vidro in São Paulo, home of celebrated Italian-born Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi. During this time Kellndorfer also engaged with the architecture of Oscar Niemeyer and gardens of Roberto Burle Marx, finding their approach to Brazilian Modernism nascent to a new scope of reference.

AED is an international conference that focuses on Sustainability and how it is approached by Architectural and Environmental Designs. AED engages with real life problems that affect the buildings on all scales, cities, and environment where it also discusses the built environment, and the factors that assist in shaping the built environment and how it affects our lives and our activities. IEREK for International Experts for Research Enrichment and Knowledge Exchange welcomes the abstract submissions to our Early Career conference.

Galeri Petronas, in partnership with the Austrian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, recently launched a travelling exhibition titled “Getting Things Done : Evolution of the Built Environment in Vorarlberg”.
The exhibition features 70 panels that showcase the evolution and current state of Vorarlberg’s distinctive built environment and GALERI PETRONAS is the first Asian stop and the only venue in Malaysia to host this global-touring exhibition.

With its upcoming double symposium KotorAPSS further establishes a small Montenegrin town as an international hot spot for architectural thinking and advances the debate on decaying places of the recent past and their possible futures.
Boka Kotorska Bay cuts the Adriatic Montenegrin coast like a Norwegian Fjord. Once a hideout for pirates and smugglers it also was an important commercial trade hub and naval base.
The region once belonged to the Illyrian Kingdom, the Roman Empire and later to the Byzantine Empire. The Venetians ruled until the late 18th century, followed by the Austrians, and troops of Napoleon. From here Mediterranean cultures spread into the Balkan. Especially since UNESCO declared the natural and culture-historical region Kotor a world heritage site in 1979 the city and the bay have become an increasingly popular daytrip location for cruise ship tourism along the Adriatic coast.
Created by David Hartwell and Bill Ferehawk, MEDIAN is an immersive video and audio installation on both walls of the exhibition space, projected nearly life sized, that renders everyday collisions of contexts that make Los Angeles endlessly surprising and challenging. But concealed behind the familiar frame of Los Angeles, lies a potentially disruptive and subversive canvas, positioning the viewer in the most privileged and uninhabitable location in Los Angeles—the middle of the road. From here, MEDIAN presents a peculiar moving image view of the social and material proximities of Los Angeles, exploring a myriad of urban audio-visual-scapes, and draws out
