Moscow Urban Forum 2016: Fast-Growing Megacities - Technologies for Dynamic Development

Since its first version in 2011, the Moscow Urban Forum has become an important international platform devoted to the development of megacities, and improvement of the quality of life of urban residents in the world, Moscow and Russia. Over the years, it has developed into a major international project that brings together the people who come up with ideas to improve the quality of urban space, and the people who implement these ideas: mayors, politicians, urbanists, and architects from all over the world.

The topic of the 2016 Forum is "Fast-Growing Megacities: Technologies for Dynamic Development." Why is it so important to discuss growth and development of megacities at this time? What are the rules that determine their existence?

Open Call: Tverskaya Streetscape Concept Design

Strelka KB announces the launch of an Open International Competition for Tverskaya Streetscape Concept Design. The design project covers Tverskaya Street (from Pushkinskaya Square to Triumfalnaya Square) and 1st Tverskaya-Yamskaya Street in Moscow. The competition is aimed to attract young and emerging architects for the projects on the renovation of urban territories as a part of “My Street” programme. The winner will be announced on the 7th of July 2016.

Bauhaus Stage – Experiments On Body And Space

The purpose of this competition is to design a stage set for a dance and music performance to be given at the Bauhaus stage in Dessau in December 2016. Since the Gropius Bauhaus was opened in 1925 Music and Dance was an important part of Bauhaus teaching complementing other disciplines such architecture painting textile or graphic design and sculpting.The most well-known exponent in the field of stage set and costume design was Oskar Schlemmer.

Call for Entries: Golden Pin Design Award 2016

Call for entries have opened for Taiwan's Golden Pin Design Award (GPDA) 2016–the only international huaren-focused design award in the world. As Taipei City proudly hosts the World Design Capital 2016, the gaze of the international design community is squarely on the island nation. This unique award offers designers and companies around the world the perfect opportunity to test the viability and inventiveness of their product or design project in the huge, diverse huaren (Chinese-speaking) market. Winners will receive a prestigious Golden Pin Design Mark–an indicator of innovation that they can use to market their product or design project–or a Best Design trophy, and valuable brand exposure in two languages.

Corning Incorporated and OLEDWorks are inviting design proposals for OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) lighting applications that highlight the special features of OLED technology: thin form factors, low weight lighting elements, cool to touch, and high light quality. The Lima Art Museum (MALI) announces the launch of an open competition for the design of its new contemporary art wing. The project will include new gallery spaces, a library, classrooms, workshops, a café, a public plaza, access to a future metro station, and a landscape proposal for the park where the museum is located. Our goal is to establish the MALI as a new civic and cultural platform in the city, as well as a referent for future competitions regarding the design of public spaces in Lima.

Call for Entries: Nupath Sculpture Competition

We see opportunities for collaboration for art and architecture students and NuPath. We would love to engage the students in a potential competition project of creating sculptures to the name of those who were part of NuPath. The project is to design a single sculpture or installation that could be dynamically multiplied on site. The outdoor space is located on the back green space of the building, located in 147 New Boston Street in Woburn, MA and it is currently being planned as the Outdoor Sculpture Park. Extraordinary Playscapes

By examining the history and science of play—including 40 notable examples of playground design by international leading experts—this exhibition will explore how designers translate play objectives into innovative environments. Curated by Design Museum Boston, the exhibition highlights include public programs with playscape design experts, workshops for adults and children, and a Playground Passport that will promote play spaces in the neighborhoods of Boston.

Solar Powered Shelter(s) Design Competition

Concordia University’s CoLLaboratoire invites young creative practitioners, be they students or recent graduates, to consider the role of public art and design in increasing awareness of, and engagement in, issues around climate change at the local level. This design competition is part of a series of activities conducted by the Montreal-based not-for-profit CoLLaboratoire initiative, whose main objective is the realization of a series of art-based interactive installations that address some critical theme of sustainable living in the city.

Call for Papers: Society of Architectural Historians 2017 Annual International Conference

The Society of Architectural Historians is now accepting abstracts for its 70th Annual International Conference in Glasgow, Scotland, June 7–11. Please submit an abstract no later than June 6, 2016, to one of the 32 thematic sessions, the Graduate Student Lightning Talks or the open sessions. The thematic sessions have been selected to cover topics across all time periods and architectural styles. SAH encourages submissions from architectural, landscape, and urban historians; museum curators; preservationists; independent scholars; architects; and members of SAH chapters and partner organizations.

Open Call: Collective Habitat: International Competition For Collective Housing Ideas

Collective Habitat is a competition for students and professionals which seeks to produce ideas to densify areas in or near the centers of 5 Chilean cities with collective housing. The goal is collect innovative architecture proposals that offer access to housing for middle and lower class families in well-served urban areas of Iquique, Valparaíso, Santiago, Concepción and Puerto Montt.

Only three A3 digital sheets are needed plus a 200 words summary. Proposals must be collective housing projects for middle and lower class families; they also could incorporate additional uses if the participant wants. There is no restriction in scale or materials,

Summer Program: The Business of Architecture

Syracuse Architecture along with IE Business School and IE School of Architecture and Design have teamed up to offer an innovative summer course: The Business of Architecture. The six-week, 3-credit hour-long course will be conducted at the state-of-the-art Fisher Center, home of Syracuse Architecture in New York City. This course is intended for those studying for a professional degree in architecture (B.Arch and M.Arch) as well as for young professionals and qualified students in related design fields.
