The Al Wathba Wetland Reserve in the UAE capital of Abu Dhabi is home to a vibrance of wildlife, the most famous of which are its flamingo population. The magnificent waves of pink flock to the reserve every autumn to spend the cooler winter months residing in the wetlands until spring, as many as 4,000 at a time.

The Abu Dhabi Flamingo Visitor Center competition is the second in a series set in the Al Wathba Wetland Reserve; following the success of the Flamingo Observation Tower competition, in partnership with EAD (Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi).

Carnets. Architecture Is Just a Pretext is a publication that resumes a large research about the state of the art of young Architecture practices in Europe. The work, dealing with architectural practices through a biographic approach, is addressing to the new direction which profession is taking in Europe among young architects.

Carnets is a research project started two years ago by eight architecture students from IUAV University of Venice. The aim is to investigate the current landscape of Architecture in Europe, after the 2008 economical crisis, through interviews, talks, round tables and workshops.

In 1925 a journalist from the Barcelona newspaper El Escándalo used the term Barrio Chino in a somewhat derogatory way to describe part of the older city. While the area in question represented a dystopian underbelly of the city, known for its impoverished living and working conditions together with its ‘red-light’ subcultures, it never existed as a ‘Chinatown’ in either a physical or social sense.
