The intention of the Kurula Varkey Design Forum has been to curate discussions centered around the thoughts of students and young graduates. It has constantly tried to bring the agency which students hold, to forefront; to provide a platform for students to display their opinions to the profession they’ll be entering soon. Writing becomes a tool to examine one’s own thoughts; at the same time it provides an important platform to express one’s voice to a larger community. Eager to provide a podium for contemplation and expression in the field of architecture, we’re pleased to announce ‘KVDF Writing Competition 2022’, for students of architecture, planning, design, and other associated fields to put down their ideas and opinions through persuasive, inspiring, and influential writing.
The Reconstructing the Future for People and Planet Conference, hosted by Bauhaus Earth and the Pontifical Academy of Sciences (PAS), begins today at the Casina Pio IV, the PAS headquarters, in the Vatican Gardens.
The "Local Heritage Management" diploma program at the Universidad Finis Terrae Faculty of Architecture and Design, in collaboration with the Training Academy and the Undersecretariat for Regional and Administrative Development (Subdere), is hosting the online conference "Management and Development of Local Heritage." The lecture will be presented by Ecuadorian architect Jacobo Herdoiza on Wednesday, June 22, at 11:00 a.m.
In 2022, SA lab joined DigitalFUTURES community, sharing knowledge in fields of computational design and digital fabrication. DigitalFUTURES creates a series of free workshops and lectures to bring together the leading architects, thinkers and technologists from across the globe. To move to net zero, the future of construction will be based on circular economy principles and the innovative use of biomaterials that are renewable and sequester carbon from the atmosphere. Presented at Milan Design Week’s Fuorisalone, in the heart of the Brera Design District, KÝKLOSDÉNDRON (tree cycle) is a room within a room that offers an unexpected vantage point inside a charming Milanese apartment from the early 1800s. Designed by Boito Sarno Architects, this installation is entirely made of wood and cork showing the potential of rediscovering traditional materials in a modern idiom. The installation has a tactile element, with visitors invited to walk barefoot on a cork ‘pebbles’ walkway. Cleverly engineered with standardised modules that can be easily assembled and disassembled, it does not use metal elements.

The in-person event—Architects Speak for Themselves: Divergent Architectural Practices in Guayaquil—aims to foster the dissemination of contemporary, critical, and reflective thought regarding new workspaces and explorations of architectural practice in Guayaquil. URBANBATfest is a festival that acts as a laboratory—or a laboratory that evolves into a festival. It is a research process focused on urban transformations and an environment for learning, experimentation, and collective creation designed to drive urban innovation.
In this new edition of URBANBATfest, under the theme "No future," we are opening a space for reflection on the future of cities. We are examining the responsibility of architecture and urban planning within this context of multidimensional crisis, their complicity and forms of resistance, their possibilities and limitations, their tools and working methodologies, their relationship with other disciplines, their areas of intervention, their capacity to create new imaginaries, and how to cohabit the present and the future.
The goal of these conversations is to exchange experiences, discuss, and reflect on contemporary architecture and construction, while broadening critical perspectives. The aim is to discuss architecture in a critical, provocative, and proactive way, exploring processes, technologies, and innovations.
"Dentro da Pós" presents the pedagogical framework, structure, objectives, and schedule of the Escola da Cidade lato sensu postgraduate program through conversations, open classes, and final reviews, all of which are open to anyone interested in the seven courses offered.
The Fundação Bienal de São Paulo once again invites the public—especially those who frequent Ibirapuera Park—to experience the Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion in a new way. On Saturday, June 11, the second meeting of the year for the Pavilhão aberto program will take place. Titled "Possible Urbanities," the event will feature a talk with architect Louise Lenate Ferreira da Silva at 11:00 am, a tour of the Pavilion with the Bienal’s education team at 2:00 pm, and a free step dance workshop for children with the group Crossover at 3:00 pm.
