Spanning 9 hours and held on Tuesdays—December 4, 11, and 18—the course "Great Themes in Architecture: Cities" will be taught by Professor Heloisa Dallari, an architect with a PhD in Architecture from the USP School of Architecture and Urbanism, a professor of undergraduate and graduate courses at FAAP, and a lecturer and consultant in Interior Design.

The graduate program at Escola da Cidade, which celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2018, currently offers four regular courses: ‘Housing and City,’ ‘Geography, City and Architecture,’ ‘Architecture, Education and Society,’ and ‘Mobility – Its Logics and Scales.’ In 2019, the program will expand to include the course ‘Conceiving and Constructing: Lightweight Structures and Prefabrication.’

The event aims to elucidate the design processes employed by notable Latin American architects, with the goal of introducing students and faculty to the pedagogy of architectural design. Each invited architect will explain their approach to practice, focusing not only on creative processes but also on collaboration with their partners, through the presentation of a select number of projects. The event will feature two 20-minute lectures by Latin American architects, followed by a 30-minute panel discussion.
This year’s Architect and Urban Planner Day will be a time for celebration and recognition. As is tradition, CAU/RJ will announce the winners of the Grandjean de Montigny Grand Prize during a ceremony at the Nelson Rodrigues Theater on Tuesday, December 18, starting at 4:00 p.m. The program will also feature a talk with architect and urban planner Luiz Carlos Toledo, a performance of the show "Pixinguinha, the Architect of Choro," and a cocktail reception.
