On the occasion of the book release of Claude Parent: Visionary Architect (Rizzoli New York), we are pleased to invite you to discover the exhibition Claude Parent: Visionary Architect held at SCI-Arc’s Kappe Library, celebrating French architect Claude Parent’s work. This exhibition includes a full-scale ramp installation based on the architect’s own oblique apartment interior, and presents a selection of never before seen original drawings and sketches, as well as photographs of iconic projects and publications on Parent's work.

Days of Oris is an international architecture convention organised by Oris magazine and the Oris House of Architecture. The two-day event has been held since 2001. It presents the most significant names of the architectural and cultural scene and gathers more than 2000 visitors every year.
Days of Oris 19 will be held in Zagreb from 19 to 20 October 2019, at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall.

Aarhus School of Architecture proudly announces the seventh joint venture competition: Drawing of the Year 2019.

AFFR (Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam) is the world’s biggest international platform for films about the city and architecture. In this eleventh edition, the festival is once again programming a stunning selection of works about current themes related to society and the city. Broader and more topical than ever, the programme includes world premieres and films never previously screened in the Netherlands.

ISTANBUL - Marmara Urban Forum will be held for the first time in Istanbul, Turkey on 1-3 October 2019 hosting more than 200 speakers from 25 countries and 3000 participants including 100 mayors, and the urban matters to be discussed include but are not limited to urban technologies, innovation, public space, immigration, climate change. Such stakeholders of the cities as NGO representatives, mayors, scholars from all around the world and Turkey are coming together on the same platform. The events are comprised of panels, parallel sessions, interviews, roundtables, workshops, concerts, exhibitions, competitions and technical trips organized for three days.

Starting with the landmark exhibition in 2014, Built by Women has offered the opportunity to demonstrate the breadth of achievement in the building industry by women at the highest levels.

Women are underrepresented in the building professions: architecture (15–18%), engineering (4.5–13.7%), and construction (2.6%). Built by Women’s goal is to change this. Increasing the number of women in science, technology, engineering, architecture and mathematics is critical to our country’s ability to compete globally. 

The purpose of this competition is to recognize the significant but often overlooked work of women architects, landscape architects, urban designers, engineers, contractors, and developers in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

The Architects’ Journal's AJ Specification Awards returns for a 2nd year, celebrating successful collaborations between suppliers, manufacturers, and architects.
The awards celebrate how exceptional working relationships between architects and suppliers and manufacturers lead to successful projects, showcasing standout examples of the creative use of products and materials in making great buildings.
Be it to find solutions to particular design challenge, or simply to bring joy to a project, the intelligent integration of products into the design process – from the taps in a bathroom to the finishes on a façade – is an aspect of architecture that the AJ has long championed.

Regenerative spaces are those that are rehabilitating, enriching and strengthening - they reverse the damaging effects of life’s challenges. We will explore what this looks like from multiple angles and broaden the discussion beyond the building.

Aiming at bringing science, architecture practice and the building industry closer together, VELUX two knowledge-sharing and best-practice platforms will for the first time be held back to back. More than 500 scientists, architects, developers, urban planners, building owners, professional housebuilders, government representatives, and building professionals from North America, China and Europe will convene in the historic site Le Carreau du Temple of Paris, 9 and 10 October, to introduce and exchange their latest research and building practice but also discuss how healthy buildings can be a cornerstone in everyday living today.

How can we support creative answers to current and future challenges the constantly growing population of urban areas will face in the near future? This is just one of many questions and topics which have been discussed during the international project Shared Cities: Creative Momentum in the past four years. Now the time has come to present the accomplishments. An international festival called Shared Cities: The Finale will take place on October 2nd and 3rd in the city of Prague, Czech Republic.

The biennial Monterey Design Conference (MDC 2019) celebrates its 25th gathering of leading global design figures along the Northern California coast, October 25-27, 2019. Organized the American Institute of Architects (AIA) California, this confab differs from most conferences because attendees can engage in casual conversations with presenters in a relaxed, oceanside setting—mingling over meals, at receptions, or along the beach. The weekend event is held at Asilomar Conference Center in Pacific Grove, CA, the wooded retreat that was designed by 2014 AIA Gold Medal winner Julia Morgan, FAIA.

The Brick Industry Association (BIA) has opened its entries for the 2019 Brick in Architecture Awards—now celebrating 30 years as the nation’s leading architectural design competition featuring fired-clay brick. Entries are due by Oct. 31.

With a history of stunning, innovative and unusual design, all submissions must use clay brick as the project’s primary building material.

Introduction

In 2019, the 2nd edition of Building 4Humanity Design Competition (B4H-DC) aims to address the notion of having architecture as a social and cultural facility, by seeking design ideas that would contribute towards the social inclusion and integration of Syrian war refugees in the Turkish border city of Reyhanlı. The competition has two separate categories: it welcomes submissions from students and recent graduates, as well as experienced professionals.
