The São Paulo Design Weekend, better known as DW!, brings together IED professionals and world-renowned designers from October 3 to 10. The central theme of the IED panels at the 10th edition of DW! is "Images and Data." This topic is also part of the 5th edition of the IED Graphic Interaction Festival, held within the event during the GIF Talks.
The Insper Arq.Futuro Cities Laboratory, through its City and Regulation Center, is hosting the first webinar series, "Real Estate Production and Architectural Heritage," throughout October. The series features representatives from various involved sectors and presents emblematic case studies that highlight concrete proposals for bridging different perspectives on urban space occupation.
On October 7 (Thursday) at 7:00 PM, {CURA} will host the fifth interview with jurors from the 6th {CURA} Award, introducing the fifth jury member to participants: Marcelo Ferraz. The conversation is intended to serve as supplementary material for those participating in the competition. This time, Francesco Perrotta-Bosch, who is also a jury member, will moderate the discussion, representing our partner, Todavia publishing house.
IED (Istituto Europeo di Design)’s participation in DW! (São Paulo Design Week) includes an in-person event on Friday, October 8, at 2:00 PM. At the invitation of ZIV Gallery—located in Beco do Batman, a São Paulo landmark known for its walls covered in colorful street art and graffiti—urban artist Caio Ramires will perform a live painting session, which will subsequently be exhibited at IED. The event is free, will feature live music, and is limited to 50 attendees.
The Museu do Pontal in Rio de Janeiro, an international reference for Brazilian folk art with over nine thousand works by 300 artists—the largest collection of its kind and recognized for its relevance by UNESCO—inaugurated its new headquarters in Barra da Tijuca on October 9, 2021. With this, the city gains a new and important art and culture facility. This inauguration is the result of a major collective collaboration involving over a thousand people and companies such as BNDES, Instituto Cultural Vale, and Itaú Cultural, among others, through the Federal Government's Culture Incentive Law. Furthermore, it was made possible through the special support of IBRAM (Brazilian Institute of Museums) and the City of Rio de Janeiro.
Escola da Cidade’s open courses are short-term and cover a diverse range of topics. They are intended for those interested in expanding dialogues on subjects such as history, anthropology, technology, economics, photography, literature, design, and music, among others, through cross-disciplinary perspectives on architecture and the city.
CHURU is a collection of mobile architectural experiences, where each edition consists of an expedition, workshops, and a final publication that compiles the artistic works of the travelers who document the journey.
The Latin American city is built upon fragments: fragments of landscape, memory, construction knowledge, and modes of habitation that remain present, even if they often go unnoticed. In Manizales—a city shaped by its steep terrain, risk, adaptation, and the constant transformation of its territory—these fragments manifest with particular intensity.

The 14th SEMAU - Architecture and Urbanism Week presents this year's theme: "(IN)VISIBILITIES: POLITICS, DEMOCRACY, AND RESISTANCE." The event aims to discuss and reflect on the social and political landscape and its relationship with urban dynamics in Brazil. Likewise, it seeks to showcase and share positive experiences in addressing the urban challenge of overcoming socio-spatial inequalities, highlighting the political role of architecture, urbanism, and related fields as a means of resistance.
The book, the result of classes taught at Escola da Cidade, was organized and conceived by artist and professor Claudio Mubarac.
On October 5th, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, IED (Istituto Europeo di Design) will host its second annual Open Day. The event invites high school students and prospective applicants to an afternoon of activities, including discussions and a creative challenge, offering attendees the opportunity to explore the college and its undergraduate programs in Graphic and Digital Design, Fashion Design, and Product and Service Design.
Created to be one of the largest events on the Brazilian architectural calendar, DOMO brings together established professionals from the country and prominent names in global architecture to discuss the design and function of facades in architectural projects.
Organized annually by Escola da Cidade, the Scientific Initiation Symposium has established itself since its first edition in 2009 as a prolific space for debate among students, advisors, and invited commentators regarding academic research and fundamental issues in the field of architecture and urbanism across its multiple approaches—from social housing themes to landscape discussions, from public art to critiques of modern Brazilian architecture, and from urbanism to design.
A course on Japanese architecture held in October 2019, presented by Gabriel Kogan. The program consists of 4 classes (split over two weeks, on Mondays and Thursdays), each focused on conceptual themes of production in Japan. The goal is to construct a brief genealogy of contemporary Japanese architecture through the study of historical and modern works. The lectures will explore fundamental elements of Eastern aesthetics and their presence in contemporary times.
The third “Architecture Encounters” will address the theme of ephemeral architecture and public space interventions. Considering the expanding roles of architects and urban planners, this meeting aims to discuss short-term projects that impact the daily lives of the population over a brief period.
The IED (Istituto Europeo di Design) will host Italian designer Gianni Cinti for the lecture "The Future of Fashion" on October 19 at 7:00 PM. The discussion is rooted in the concept that designers are crucial players in the sustainability game. Indeed, it is necessary to reclaim a design methodology linked to "making" and "inventing"—elements that have always been inherent to the creator and are indispensable to the "Made in Italy" working method.
