A year ago, we announced that Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira was awarded the 2019 Spanish National Architecture Award. Today, October 30, at 5:00 PM CET, the award ceremony will not only be held as a special streaming event from the Palacio de Zurbano in Madrid, but it also marks the first time the award has been presented by a Prime Minister.

The School of Architecture at Universidad Finis Terrae will host the symposium "Between Van Eycks and Smithsons: Theoretical Convergences, Practical Divergences. Thresholds, Steps, Transitions," which seeks to delve into the specific conditions of the architectural works of Aldo and Hannie van Eyck and Peter and Alison Smithson, and to debate their conceptual issues.

FOCO is a series of talks organized by the University Commission of the Sociedad Central de Arquitectos every Saturday at 7:00 PM. With over 10 editions held to date, the series has featured presentations from more than 45 prominent figures in architecture, design, and related disciplines, along with a dozen artists for the closing segment.

The 2020 Pan American Biennial of Architecture of Quito has opened its call for entries for projects and publications completed in the four years leading up to each edition. Over its twenty-one editions, the Biennial Competition has received more than 7,000 submissions and recognized contributions to the practice of architecture, urbanism, landscape, theory, and architectural dissemination.

Local policymakers in urban planning must have a better understanding of potential impacts and a more profound reflection to find a solid foundation for acting effectively within their own territory. Co-organized by @sca_socearq and the Faculty of Architecture at @universidaddepalermo, the series features guests from diverse fields of urban culture who are active participants in the ongoing reconstruction of the city.

From October 5th to 8th, the Colegio de Arquitectos de Costa Rica (CACR) will host the XV International Professional Architecture Biennial. With over 30 years of history, this year’s edition will bring together representatives from 14 countries to showcase 312 national and international projects, including 125 professional and 187 student entries.

Design House, a collective intervention project by architecture, landscape, design, and interior design professionals, is partnering with Público Coworking to create a series of creative rooms within its newest location in Lomas de Chapultepec. The event will feature more than 40 spaces where architects, designers, landscape architects, and design and interior brands will offer their work for sale, aiming to support commerce and the local economy within our creative industries, which have been significantly impacted by the reality of COVID-19.

Following the conclusion of the first and second cycles of Viernes de Fábrica, which brought together over 1,000 students, architects, and professors from 20 countries over the course of 20 weeks, the belief that academia must now, more than ever, be linked to social issues to create School+Community projects is reaffirmed. We are pleased to announce the third cycle of Viernes de Fábrica, the final installment of the year, which will take place from October 16 to December 4.

From October 7 to 11, the 11th Patagonia Architecture Congress—40 Years will take place in Punta Arenas.

Niterói will host the exhibition "Let Limits Collapse, Let Forgotten Distances Appear," opening on October 5 at the Espaço Cultural Correios. The exhibition features Alberto Saraiva, Enéas Valle, Lígia Teixeira, Marilou Winograd, Mario Camargo, Mark Engel, Marcelo Palmar Rezende, and Petrillo. Curated by Mario Camargo, the show offers an immersion into the artists' poetic universe, reflecting on freedom and providing a profound look at the human existential condition—specifically their own. The curator notes that "being an artist is a state whose meaning is composed of layers, material techniques, forms, and colors, in a constant overflow of sensations."
