B. Alexandra Szerlip gives a free, public talk about her new book, The Man Who Designed the Future: Norman Bel Geddes and the Invention of Twentieth-Century America (Melville House).

In the fall of 2016, it had been exactly 50 years since the first house called type V was completed in a village close to a Moravian town of Šumperk, designed by engineer Josef Vaněk. Under a widely used name “šumperák” it soon became a phenomenon, and as the most common new house it flooded Czechoslovakia. Its success is undoubtedly based on the period demand for individual housing and the possibility to build it relatively cheaply and easily in DIY manner using commonly available materials.

Architecture in Transformation should respond to contemporary challenges and changes. What concerns us primarily is the relationship between architecture and environment, so as to the image of city. The competition aims at searching and constructing human space with a Spirit of Place in the increasingly fragmented cities and unordered villages, exploring environment-friendly and sustainable ideas in the information age, and integrating creative concepts with solid basic skills in architectural design. The competition requires the participants to make detailed insights and reflections on architectural history, explore complicated coordinated demands of architecture and environment, pay attention to events in specific sites, and configure viable urban and architectural spaces.

The Villa Croce Museum of Contemporary Art presents the first monographic exhibition on the work of Cesare Leonardi (Italian, b. 1935). In the course of a career spanning more than four decades Leonardi, an architect and photographer, has continuously challenged the boundary between design and artistic practice. In spite of the recognition gained by his early furniture design, most of Leonardi’s oeuvre has remained little known, even within Italy. Cesare Leonardi: Strutture, organised in close cooperation with Leonardi’s archive, sheds light on an intimate yet multifaceted body of work.

Anthology Architecture and Design Festival 2017 is a three-day celebration of architecture and design to be held on March 31 to April 2, 2017 at the Puerta del Parian in the historic walled city of Intramuros, Manila, Philippines.

The ShiftxDesign Conference at Harvard, this February 19th, is an annual exploration of all things design. Launched in 2012, the conference is a collaborative effort between student groups at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, Harvard Business School, and Harvard College - and the only cross-school event of its kind. The International Khalifa Heritage School seeks interdisciplinary-minded students and young professionals to work collaboratively to develop innovative design solutions for a proposed Heritage and Environment Park. The park will occupy a critically important site at the southern gateway to Khalifa neighborhood and overlooking the 13th-century al-Ashraf Khalil and Fatima Khatun Domes, monuments of great heritage significance.

An exhibition that comprises of sketches of 20 internationally renowned architectural minds will be on display at Gallery 1AQ, a gallery in the foreshadow of the iconic Qutab Minar, an ancient Mughal monument from 3 - 21 February, 2017. Along with the exhibit, there will be interactive events over 3 weeks where design powerhouses from around the globe and across different platforms will be presenting. The same has been curated by the Verendra Wakhloo and Rachit Srivastava.

42 photographs representing all 42 cathedrals of the Church of England by Magnum photographer Peter Marlow (1952 – 2016) are to be exhibited in The Lady Chapel at Ely Cathedral. This is only the second time this work has been displayed in one of the spaces featured in the series and the first time the project has been exhibited in this region of the UK.
