Public Play Space (PPS) is launching a Call for Best Practices for projects and concepts focusing on innovative and creative practices for the co-design of inclusive, cohesive, and sustainable public spaces and cities, through the use of games and digital technologies.

This announcement is hereby issued for International Tender for the Architectural Design of the First Projects in Shenzhen Park of Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone (Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation Integrated Service Center), and excellent design agencies at home and abroad are invited to join. We desire to solicit the most creative design scheme with the international vision and high standards.

The School of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago is now accepting applications for the 2020–21 Douglas A. Garofalo Fellowship. Named in honor of the architect and educator Doug Garofalo (1958–2011), the nine-month fellowship provides emerging designers the opportunity to teach design studio and seminar courses and conduct independent research, culminating in a public lecture at the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts and an exhibition or public conversation at the school.

Cartographies of the Imagination presents a forum for the multi-disciplinary discussion of cartography as world-making. We seek to explore alternative practices of charting not only physical places but also the means of mapping people, objects, memories, events, movements and narratives. We invite scholars, practitioners and artists working with all forms of world-making to investigate and discuss their perspectives, projects, research and practice. We invite all interpretations of the topic - be it a talk or paper, presentation, live drawing, film, performance or otherwise. Cartographies of the Imagination will be staged over two weeks in the RIBA London 2019 award-winning OmVed Gardens and Greenhouses in Highgate, from 17 April to 1 May.

Based on the unified arrangements of Shenzhen Municipal Government, Shenzhen is advancing the construction of the “New Top Ten Cultural Facilities”; wherein, Guoshen Museum (tentative name) has been determined to settle in the coastal area of Qianhai New City Center. How are the contemporary pedagogy modeled and structured? What are the methods explored and experimented, and why? How are the contemporary design educations align with the shifting topography of culture and environment? Soil is the foundation of the Earth in which we all inhabit. We grow from it, prosper from it, build upon it, pollute it, and dichotomize it. Soil is an organic material providing a sustainable base for life. Yet, polarized as degrading and dirty. How is it that soil can unite nations, yet divide people? What power does it have in cultivating the built environment and defining its boundaries?

In our present moment, the incessant production of culture and knowledge imparts an important task to the notion of commitment. Knowledge and culture are produced in excess in institutions and popular culture, making it the impossible task of critics and scholars to sift through endless amounts of cultural material and make value judgements. Partly a consequence and a cause of a shift in thinking that began in the 1960s and 1970s, a phenomenon that could be called a democratization of production (of narratives, images, cultures) has had some positive effects for the civil rights movements, leading to the inclusion of underrepresented demographics into fields that were previously hostile to them. However, the consequences of the Postmodern debunking of universal truth (that was necessary for and produced by such a shift in thinking) has carried with it the accompanying erosion of the concept of morality. The last decade has seen a further dismantling of the universal notion of “truth” and its effects in politics—note the great difficulty for contemporary politicians to convincingly assert that something is morally correct and necessary. The statement that “truth is subjective,” once a great tool to undermine the dominant grand narratives of the past, is now freely used in the name of individual freedoms, often without assessing the morality of such freedoms.

Although the field of architecture likes to think it is cutting-edge, adamantly liberal, and on the forefront of history, we still look towards the compulsive tendencies of the glorified visionary, their revolutionary thoughts, illuminating process, and iconic vision. This historiography is, in and of itself, an obsession - fetishizing personas, establishing camps, crafting a storyline that awards persuasion and trend over quality and sincerity. In the longstanding tradition of self-made, winner-take-all fanaticism, now more than ever do we see a craving for attention that is pulling (or rather dragging) the field even further from its core values and closer to soulless squander.

The A’ Design Award was "born out of the desire to underline the best designs and well-designed products." It is an international award whose aim is to provide designers, architects, and innovators from all design fields with a platform to showcase their work and products to a global audience.
