The Humanitarian Respite shelter in the downtown section of the City of McAllen, Texas was born as a response to families in crisis. Through its services and the work of volunteers, it successfully restores dignity to people in need, particularly Central American immigrants seeking refuge crossing the border from Mexico to the US.

FIGMENT has teamed with the Emerging New York Architects Committee (ENYA) of the American Institute of Architects NY Chapter (AIANY) and the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY) to host a competition to design and construct an architectural pavilion in Lighthouse Park on Roosevelt Island, the City of Dreams Pavilion. The 2019 pavilion will be our ninth City of Dreams Pavilion, and our first on Roosevelt Island.

ARCHSharing, in collaboration with TECHO Paraguay, proposes the «Emergency Housing in Paraguay» contest. A contest that propose to response to the lack of access to housing in Paraguay, the aim is to offer residents a building that responds to the emergency situation while guaranteeing their dignity and their right to a suitable home. The Bauwelt Award (consisting of 6 awards of 5000 Euros each) applies to all categories of “First Work” – from the interior design of shops and stores to prototypal constructions, from public housing projects to the restructuring of a public space and to temporary interventions. Qualified for submission is every first work the submitter has realized on his or her own responsibility and which has been completed after September 30th, 2015.

Warming Huts + Art Installation
Three teams will be selected as winners of the WARMING HUTS COMPETITION: Arts + Architecture Competition on Ice from submissions of designs for a warming hut or art installation. Winning entries will be placed along the Red River Mutual Trail located on the Assiniboine and Red rivers in Winnipeg, Manitoba. A jury will select the winning designs based on their creativity in use of materials, providing shelter, poetics of assembly and form, integration with the landscape, and ease of construction.

Landscape architects from Europe are invited to take part in an architect’s selection for the design of the Central Park area of Voronezh – a city of 1.000.000 inhabitants located 500 km south of Moscow. The area comprises over 100 ha of woodland north of the city centre. It has been used as a park before, but has fallen in disrepair in the 1990s.

Background
Subject to the issue of Great City projecting the situation of China’s mega cities, the block for this competition is given the motif of “Smart Vertical Community,” which seeks creative and smart ideas and solutions to high-rise buildings in terms of efficiency, flexibility, and diversity by echoing values of communication, public service, knowledge exchange, networks, and management.

AM I Included? Open Call: Innovative Ideas for the Inclusive City

The Overall Planning for the Development of the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone was approved by the State Council in 2010. The Planning defines Qianhai as an innovative cooperation demonstration zone for Guangdong-Hong Kong modern service industry.

The Sukkah Project: Dwell in Design is a design competition to which local and national architects, artists and builders will be invited to submit their most creative and exciting sukkah designs.Ten to twelve Finalists will be will be selected to receive a $1,800 construction stipend and will be tasked with building a life size, modern, artistic sukkah to be displayed at the Dallas Museum of Biblical Art during the weeklong festival. From among these finalists, a panel of expert judges will select the winner of a cash prize, to be announced during the feature event to be held on Sunday, September 23rd, 2018.

The selected sukkahs will be erected outside, on the grassy area on the north of the museum’s property. Entries should be designed and partially pre-assembled to allow final installation and later removal within limited available times.
The Texas Jewish Arts Association (TJAA) envisions The Sukkah Project: Dwell in Design as both an innovative design competition and an outreach opportunity for the Jewish community to connect with the greater Dallas/Fort Worth population. The overarching goal is the promotion of the importance of a safe refuge against the elements and a reminder to us of those in our cities who are homeless or under-housed; dislocated and estranged, and the need of those individuals to establish homes of their own. For this reason, TJAA has partnered with Habitat for Humanity and Jewish Family Services as beneficiaries of funds raised during the event.

Managed by Métropole Rouen Normandie in collaboration with the ONF, the call for applications covers the creation of 8 to 12 works of art located at the center of the Green Forest.

Building Trust International have just announced their 8th design competition which is in association with the United Nations Development Programme and the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone. The competition entitled 'Affordable Housing Design Challenge' challenges architects, designers and engineers to submit an innovative design proposal for new affordable housing for low income workers in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. These new units should be well-designed, sustainable and most importantly improve the quality of life of the intended residents and the surrounding community. More than just housing, this new project should build a future for workers and their families in Cambodia.

Building Trust international will work alongside competition partners, local government and the winning team to build the winning design. The winning team will not only have their design constructed but will also receive a US$20,000 cash prize fund with 4 honourable mentions receiving US$5000 each.

Sukkah x Detroit celebrates the Jewish harvest festival of Sukkot in Detroit’s Capitol Park through design, agriculture, and Jewish programming. Detroit, home to 1300 urban farms, is the only UNESCO City of Design in the United States. Sukkah x Detroit honors both.

The Beacon is a design competition for an architectural structure than can be set alight. The competition involves the design of a structure in or on which a fire can be made, the primary purpose of which is to act as the opening ceremony centerpiece torch for the Lemba Lights Festival at the Cultural Village of Lemba, Paphos, Cyprus in August 2018.
