PUBLIC Platform invites you – the diverse creative minds from all parts of our community – to create installations and activation prototypes to enliven Claremont town centre during PUBLIC’s annual takeover on 2 & 3 April. Prototypes for citizens and by citizens will reimagine our public spaces and activities, and engage the public to participate, explore and play in their own city. Individuals or groups of people are invited to submit a poster to be presented at the 2016 LE:NOTRE Landscape Forum in Paphos, Cyprus 16th - 20th of March 2016, hosted by Neapolis University. The call is addressed to Forum participants. The project presented on your poster may relate to Practice, Research or Education. Contributions from a variety of disciplines are welcome as well as student projects.

Oris House of Architecture gallery in Zagreb, Croatia has been a place of many relevant architectural events since its openning – exhibitions such as Poetry of Boxes by Mathias Klotz, Kohki Hiranuma, Smiljan Radić, BUS:STOP Krumbach and Getting Things Done: Evolution of the Built Environment in Vorarlberg.

Its recent exhibition is that of Catalan studio RCR Arquitectes' works through photographs by the likes of Hisao Suzuki, Pep Sau, Emilia Roia and Marc Checinski.

We are pleased to announce International Sustainable Waterfront Design Competition (ISWDC 2016). The competition is a partnership and cooperation between universities and design firms. The program is intended to engage students or experienced designers, working individually or in teams to paying more attentions on our waterfront environment with sustainable methods, using renewable resources, offering appropriate technology and construction, improving healthy life styles and working environments. This competition aims to promote the design ability of international students of architecture, landscape or urban planning, and stimulate their enthusiasm and competition sense. We would also like to encourage and train outstanding architects with innovative ideas. By focusing on “Sustainable Waterfront”, this competition is open to architects, engineers, planners and designers who want to contribute to progress in making the world more habitable by developing a proposal capable of responding to emerging challenges. Winning participants or students will receive cash prizes totaling $32,500 plus a certificate. We welcome everyone who is interested in this competition to attend it.

The stunning images in this collection by Argentinian photographer Guillermo Srodek-Hart tell captivating stories of the country’s rural commercial establishments. Located in the rural areas outside of bustling Buenos Aires, the commercial establishments—butcheries, bakeries, bars, repair shops, garages, dry cleaners—depicted in this collection by photographer Guillermo Srodek-Hart appear steeped in history, and are packed with details dripping with color. Throughout the collection hangs an air of abandonment, of time passing, or perhaps stopping. Whether or not that is true, Srodek-Hart has memorialized a culture worlds apart from the city that lies a short distance away. The exhibit at Architekturgalerie Munich, supported by Prestel Verlag and Kuckei + Kuckei Galerie Berlin, shows a selction of his works recently published in his book “Stories”, Prestel Verlag, with a foreword by Anne Tucker.

ZGF is a nationally recognized architecture, planning, and interior design firm with a long commitment to the critical collaboration of architectural education and professional practice. In place since 2004, this scholarship is intended to recognize and foster students who have demonstrated a talent and passion for architecture.

What does it mean to build? Traditionally, building has been defined as the assembly of parts or materials toward the creation of a whole. While to build is often perceived as an Apollonian pursuit, to destroy appears to be its Dionysian counterpart. Understanding that our built environment is the product of many forces, it can dialectically be reduced to the tensions between creation and destruction, addition and subtraction, and erection and demolition.

Al-Kindi Society for Engineers will be holding its annual engineering forum in London, titled “Iraq Architecture and Planning 2016”.

Attention to all visionary artists, architects, engineers, 3D designers and model makers: Wide Open Arts will host a curated booth of imaginary towers in our upcoming Outsider Art Fair | NYC (Jan 21-24 2016). Submissions are open to all. All received designs that adhere to the dimensional and structural criteria will be evaluated and the best designs will be 3D printed and displayed in the curated space at the Outsider Art Fair NY 2016. The project and space will be curated by independent artist and curator, Leah Gordon.

Korea Racing Authority (KRA) launches an international competition for the design of a Horse Park in Yeongcheon, Korea.

Euclid understood lines as ‘breadthless lengths,’ defined by two points and stretching on into infinity. But delineations can also be as small and simple as a flick of the wrist; the mind moving out of the hand into a gesture. Vassily Kandinsky believed lines to be ‘created by movement – specifically through the destruction of the intense self-contained repose of the point.’ Process is suggested; moments emerge from the continuity to form a rhythm. When the abstract becomes physical, delineations unite and exclude. Sociologist T.K. Oommen sees ‘the very story of human civilization’ in shifting and overlapping boundaries of all kinds. Whether blurred or accentuated, instantaneous or permanent, representational or manifest, intentional or happenstance, DELINEATIONS in the landscape are consequential. They have a story to tell.

The Museum of Finnish Architecture, in collaboration with the Finnish Association of Architects SAFA, organizes an open, anonymous architectural competition for the design of solutions to housing needs of refugees in northern Europe.
The submissions will form the basis of an exhibition to be hosted in the Finnish Pavilion at the forthcoming Venice Architecture Biennale in 2016. The main exhibition at the Venice Biennale will be curated by the Chilean architect Alejandro Aravena. Its theme, Reporting from the front, is a call for proactive communal responsibility among architectural practitioners.

Dallas Architecture Forum, a non-profit organization for everyone interested in learning about and improving the architecture, design, landscape and urban fabric of the North Texas region is pleased to continue its 2015-16 Lecture Season with outstanding architect Billie Tsien, Co-Founder and Partner of Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects - a New York City-based studio focused on work for museums, schools, and non-profit organizations. Tsien’s many projects include the new art museum for the Barnes Foundation collection, the American Folk Art Museum in New York, projects for Lincoln Center in New York and Cranbrook in Michigan, and the Dallas residence for the developer of Urban Reserve.

Learn how to create your own eye-catching photographs of the city’s built environment in this hands-on workshop with architectural photographer Matthew Carbone. An introductory discussion about techniques, relevant mobile phone apps and considerations of lighting and composition particular to on-site architectural photography will be followed by an outdoor shooting session in the iconic South Street Seaport neighborhood. Class size limited to allow for individual feedback and instruction.
