Liquid and Solid - book launch at Livraria Quixote, Belo Horizonte

The photographs in Líquidas e Sólidas were taken over the course of 25 years. The first were captured with a Polaroid Image camera, which was quite popular in the 1990s. These photos are physically soft because that Polaroid ejected "liquid" images that required a few minutes to harden. In contrast, the more recent ones were taken with a new Fuji Instax, which produces firmer, less malleable photos.

Book launch: “Music and Musicians in Times of Intolerance: The Holocaust”

Following ten years of research, the book “A música e os músicos em Tempos de Intolerância: o Holocausto” (Music and Musicians in Times of Intolerance: The Holocaust), published by Rio Books and written by historian Silvia Lerner, will be launched this October in three capital cities: São Paulo, Curitiba, and Rio de Janeiro. This unprecedented publication—the first of its kind in Brazil—examines the music produced during the Holocaust in ghettos, concentration camps, extermination camps, and the forests where Jewish partisans hid.

Conversation at the "What music lies within you" exhibition, at Galeria Athena

Next Saturday, October 28, at 7:00 PM, a conversation will be held between curator Fernanda Lopes and artists Andro Silva, Atelier Sanitário (Daniel Murgel and Leandro Barboza), Hugo Houayek, Natália Quinderé (Seis gentes dançam no museu), and Rafael Alonso at Galeria Athena. The event is part of the exhibition "O que há de música em você," which has just been extended until December 2, 2023, due to popular demand. The conversation is free and open to the public.

Casa da Arquitectura opens exhibition "Siza and Oscar: Beyond the Sea"

Siza and Oscar: Beyond the Sea, a photography exhibition by José Roberto Bassul opening on September 7 at the Espaço Ferreira Alves, at the Casa da Arquitectura, consists of an abstract visual dialogue between the architecture of Siza Vieira in Brazil and that of Oscar Niemeyer in Portugal. Curated by Ângela Berlinde, the exhibition comprises 28 images that pay photographic homage to two icons of modernist architecture.

On this side, the Pestana Casino Park Hotel on the island of Madeira, the only work in Portugal by the Brazilian Oscar Niemeyer. On the other side, the Iberê Camargo Foundation building in Porto Alegre, Brazil, also the only work by the Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira.

Exhibition “From Kutanda to Quitandinha – 80 Years”

Sesc Rio de Janeiro invites you to the opening of the exhibition "Da Kutanda ao Quitandinha – 80 anos" on December 1, 2023, starting at 10:00 AM. The exhibition marks the beginning of the 80th-anniversary celebrations for the venue, which opened in 1944 as a hotel-casino and now houses the Sesc Quitandinha Cultural Center. Curated by Marcelo Campos, the expansive exhibition is organized into six sections, tracing a narrative that begins in the 18th century with the earliest records of Black presence in the Freguesia de Nossa Senhora de Inhomirim—the foundation of the region's settlement—via the Piabanha River and the plantations that relied on enslaved labor, ultimately giving rise to the city now known as Petrópolis.

DigitalFUTURES 2023: International Online Workshops in Spanish

DigitalFUTURES is a global online platform aimed at democratizing access to education and promoting critical and reflective thinking in the fields of architecture and design. Through monthly free events, we explore the latest advancements in computational design, robotic fabrication, artificial intelligence, and related fields, including theoretical, environmental, and social aspects. In 2022, Digital FUTURES Spanish was established to offer discussion sessions and workshops. Since then, it has featured the participation of more than 90 prominent Spanish-speaking designers and architects. These sessions are available for free on their YouTube channel.

Yoko Nishio at the Galeria do Lago, Museu da República

On December 9, the exhibition "Corpo Formoso" will open at the Galeria do Lago in the Museu da República. 3rd World Native Architectures Festival: Callao, Conservation, Cuisine

The third edition of this traveling festival, organized by the Sarañani! School of Conservation of Fundación Altiplano, is underway. Designed for those passionate about conservation, sustainable construction, traditional crafts, and responsible living, as well as coastal cuisine and beach landscapes, the event takes place in the wonderful port of Callao—a heritage treasure of the Americas—in collaboration with the Patronato de la Cocina del Callao, the Dirección Desconcentrada de Cultura del Callao, and the Centro Tierra of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.

7th edition of Tiradentes Creative Week showcases projects from across Brazil

The 7th edition of the Semana Criativa de Tiradentes arrives with plenty of new features. The festival, which celebrates the intersection of art and culture while honoring handmade design, will take place from October 19 to 22 in the city of Tiradentes.
