Over the past few decades, the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations (AECO) industry has been undergoing an unprecedented digital transformation. Since the days when designs were drawn exclusively on paper—a reality that lasted until the early 1980s—the field has passed significant milestones, first with the adoption of CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and, more recently, BIM (Building Information Modeling). Now, a new transition is underway, promising to be even more profound. Artificial Intelligence (AI), which until recently seemed confined to laboratories or futuristic concepts, is beginning to play a practical and strategic role in how we design, build, and manage our buildings and cities.
An architectural award acts as a legitimizing mechanism, indicating which approaches, materials, and strategies are taking center stage in the discipline's discourse. By bringing together projects with diverse programs, scales, and constraints, these initiatives bring emerging priorities and directions in the field to light. Accordingly, the Shaw Contract Design Awards has established itself as a global platform of recognition in interior design and a barometer of the transformations sweeping the discipline, fostering reflection on the role of design in creating more responsible, inclusive, and sustainable environments.
Nara Roesler São Paulo is pleased to present, beginning March 29, 2025, at 11 am, the exhibition "Isaac Julien – Lina Bo Bardi – A Marvellous Entanglement – Photographs & Collages." The show features 20 works—16 of which are being exhibited for the first time—derived from the film "Lina Bo Bardi – A Marvellous Entanglement" (2019), in which Lina Bo Bardi (1914-1992) is portrayed by Fernanda Montenegro and Fernanda Torres. The critical text is by Solange Farkas, founder of the Associação Cultural Videobrasil in 1991 and curator of numerous biennials and exhibitions.
After touring Brasília (from April 8 to May 7, at the Galeria Christina Jucá, FAU-UnB) and São Luís (from June 7 to July 17, at the Museu Casa de Nhozinho), the international exhibition CURRICULUM arrives in São Paulo for its final stop in Brazil. The exhibition celebrates the contemporary work of Latin American architects trained in Spain and will be open to the public starting September 17 on the mezzanine of the IABsp building (Rua Bento Freitas, 306, Vila Buarque), a symbolic location for both São Paulo and national architecture.
Experimental films, polaroids, “film objects,” and previously unseen works by the Rio de Janeiro-based visual artist will occupy the Cavalariças starting March 28. The solo exhibition brings together a collection of works in various formats, curated by André Sheik, tracing the artist’s experiences, concerns, travels, and friendships.

Bringing together approximately 160 works by renowned Black artists from Brazil and the United States, the exhibition "Ancestral: Afro-Americas" arrives at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil Rio de Janeiro on June 4, 2025. Under the artistic direction of Marcello Dantas and curated by Ana Beatriz Almeida, the exhibition celebrates the shared heritage and bonds between Afro-descendant peoples in Brazil and the United States within the field of visual arts, promoting a critical reflection on the African diaspora. The show also features a collection of adornments commonly known as "joias de crioula"—attire worn by Black women who achieved freedom in colonial Brazil, particularly in Bahia, as a way to express their ancestry—and a selection of African art from the Ivani and Jorge Yunes Collection, curated by Renato Araújo da Silva. These segments seek to identify, on one hand, the spaces where African ancestry was present during colonial Brazil and, on the other, its elements in art produced in its territory of origin.

On Saturday, April 5, the Eiffel bookstore will host the launch of the book Avenida Brasil rodovia metropolitana. Por um estatuto contemporâneo do espaço infraestrutural. Winner of the 2023 IAB National Award, the book advocates for the concept of the "metropolitan highway." Based on a case study of the urban segment of the BR-101 highway in Rio de Janeiro, the work explores the road far beyond the notion of mobility, positioning it as a key space for rethinking design and urban planning in Brazilian metropolises and the Global South. Featuring a rich and extensive iconography, the book includes a Morphological Atlas of Avenida Brasil. This visualization enables the proposal of "design logics between highway and territory" as catalysts for the relationships and spatialities implicit in the interface between infrastructure and human occupation. The event will feature a conversation between the author, Pedro de Moraes, and Professor Guilherme Lassance, author of the book In-formal. Infraestrutura urbana revisitada, which will also be launched at the event. The discussion will be moderated by architect and urban planner Pedro Sales, a professor at Escola da Cidade.
