This week, the latest edition of Concéntrico, the Logroño Architecture and Design Festival in Spain, came to a close. For the second consecutive year, we have participated in this initiative, which invites residents and visitors to discover and rediscover spaces of interest in the city's historic center. Over five days, a series of temporary installations by creators from around the world became resting places for pilgrims, urban stages for enjoying a glass of wine, and adventure playgrounds for local children.

In late January, the Citizen Forum "Modern Landscape, Transforming Territories" took place in Chillán, offering three days of reflection on the cultural heritage of the newly designated capital of the Ñuble Region. The event began with a tribute to architect Osvaldo Cáceres, who was close to the architects involved in the reconstruction of Chillán and nearby cities following the 1939 earthquake.

The long-awaited Bío Bío Regional Theater in Concepción, Chile, has finally opened its doors to the public in an inauguration attended by the President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet. The opening was eagerly anticipated, as Bachelet noted in her welcoming address: "Smiljan Radic won the international architecture competition in 2011, and we were only able to start construction in 2015. We wanted to inaugurate it several times, and it is finally here, with its imposing volume."

Smiljan Radic's design, which also involved architects Eduardo Castillo and Gabriela Medrano, won the public competition organized by the Architecture Area of the National Council of Culture and the Arts—currently the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage—and will serve as a hub for artistic development, exchange, and promotion for creators and cultural practitioners from the region and the rest of Chile.

Three months ago, the 20th Chilean Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism opened in Valparaíso. Titled "Diálogos Impostergables" (Urgent Dialogues), the 2017 edition was an invitation to understand the design and construction of our cities through a broad lens—one that incorporates aspirations and knowledge from outside the discipline.

As the most important event in Chilean architecture, this year's biennial served as a platform for projects reflecting on what we consider urgent in architecture and urbanism. Simultaneously, it examined how the profession can engage with those living on the margins, whose needs and aspirations have long been neglected in urban development.

Earlier this week, we reported that New York-based Catalan architect Eva Franch i Gilabert was selected as the new Director of the Architectural Association in London. Prior to this appointment, Franch served for seven years as Chief Curator and Executive Director of Storefront for Art and Architecture in New York.

At FITUR, the Logroño City Council presented LA CALLE ES UN MUSEO (The Street is a Museum), a project aimed at revitalizing tourism and cultural visits in the city by showcasing public artworks and their creative processes, narrated by the artists themselves.

Ever since we announced the results of the competition for the “New Biobío Regional Theater,” an initiative led by the Regional Government and the Architecture Area of the Council of Culture and the Arts, we had been eagerly looking forward to seeing the winning proposal finally built.

On Thursday, November 15, a new edition of the Obra del Año Awards took place—the competition that gathers votes from ArchDaily readers to determine the best architectural works built in Latin America over the past year.

Yesterday, the citizen forum "Modern Landscape, Transforming Territories" began in Chillán, an event that aims to reflect on the city's architectural and cultural heritage through various actions in the city.

Three main venues have been chosen to host all of the event's activities: the Municipal Theater, the Escuela México, and the iconic Copelec building, a landmark of modern Chilean architecture.

From January 24 to 26, the citizen forum on art, architecture, and the city, Chillán: Modern Landscape/Territories in Transformation, will take place at various locations throughout Chillán. The event includes lectures, free workshops, and a grand closing celebration featuring folk singers and other cultural expressions at the iconic COPELEC building.

The event aims to bring together the community with international artists, architects, and intellectuals in a gathering focused on revaluing the human, artistic, and territorial heritage of the newly formed Ñuble region.

On Wednesday, January 24, the Municipal Theater of Chillán will host the opening of the Chillán Citizen Forum: Modern Landscape/Transforming Territories, a three-day event that will reflect on the architectural, cultural, and artistic heritage of the locality and the new Ñuble Region. At 6:30 p.m., project curators Paul Birke and Pablo Brugnoli will present the initiative, which seeks to connect and integrate artists, thinkers, and professionals from various disciplines with local communities in an open dialogue regarding Chillán’s modern landscape.

The inaugural event will also feature the panel discussion “The Utopia of Latin American Architecture and the Case of Chillán,” which will center on honoring the distinguished architect Osvaldo Cáceres, who has had an extensive career not only as an architect but also in the research, documentation, and dissemination of national architectural history and heritage.

A new commemoration of the 1939 earthquake will take place throughout the city on January 24. The meeting point is the Plaza de Armas at 9:00 PM, where registered attendees will receive a complimentary reflective backpack.

Following this, a heritage bicycle tour will visit significant sites associated with the event that changed the city forever. At each stop, an archival photograph showing the site at the time of the earthquake will be projected, accompanied by commentary from the guides. The bike tour will pass by the San Francisco Church, the Los Carmelitas Church, the Old Normal School, the San Juan de Dios Chapel, and the Market.

Santiago, January 5, 2018 – Chilean architect M. Pilar Pinchart presents an exhibition at Galería Pan Am showcasing the inquiries that have shaped her work over the last 10 years, synthesized into a conceptual installation on high-rise housing. The exhibition opens on January 11 and will remain on view for three weeks.

The "Chillán: Modern Landscape / Territories in Transformation" Forum seeks to connect and integrate artists, thinkers, and professionals from various disciplines with local communities in an open dialogue regarding the modern landscape of the city of Chillán and the contemporary processes and dynamics of territorial transformation in the Ñuble province.

Through various sensory media and artistic expressions, the event aims to activate the emergence and recognition of memories, identities, and the cultural and heritage values of the urban and rural landscape by the communities that inhabit it.

From January 24 to 26, various locations throughout Chillán will host the public forum on art, architecture, and the city: "Chillán: Modern Landscape/ Territories in Transformation." The event includes lectures, free workshops, and a grand closing celebration featuring folk singers and other cultural expressions.

The event aims to bring together the community, artists, architects, and international intellectuals in a gathering focused on revaluing the human, artistic, and territorial heritage of the recently established 16th Ñuble Region.

One of the most anticipated design events of the year finally  took place in Milan at the beginning of June. This 2022 Salone del Mobile edition celebrated its glorious 60 years as the most relevant stage for design innovations. According to a recent research carried out by RIBA in partnership with Microsoft, called "Digital Transformation in Architecture", 87% of architecture firms agreed that digital technologies are transforming the way they work and most of them have already embarked on their digital transformation journey. The study shows that professionals in the Architecture field are easily embracing digitalization with the adoption of 3D computer-aided design, and moving fast towards Building Information Modeling (BIM) and the Internet of Things (IoT). 

Keeping in mind the particular needs of architects, companies could stand to gain from rethinking their investments in traditional marketing actions, such as printing materials or having a presence in trade shows and considering more inexpensive and practical strategies related to content generation.
